A day trip to Castle from Fernie is worth it if Castle is getting snow. It's about 1.5 hours of easy driving, if the weather is nice. The chutes area is fun when there's good snow, nice sustained vertical. The cat track getting back to the base blows, and look out for the 6' whoop-de-do that comes out of nowhere.

I always been curious about Whitewater. Their map looks really boring though.

Looks like things got warm around whitewater the last couple days....freezing level forecasts have gone warmer here, and back home in WA is colder- odd. Forecasts, man.
I’m here though, so probably doing a one ride ticket tomorrow and heading out towards Five Mile Basin/Fingers area. Maybe Kootenay pass the next day.

Any ways to access the Valhallas without sled or heli from Slocan area?

Headed to Big White later this week to meet up with my SO's family, and then on to Nelson this weekend. Any discounted lift tickets available for Big White?

It's a long flat slog, but Airy Ck is do-able as a day trip, and a six pack might get you a tow.

5 mile has been really good for the last 3 days, and got a decent reset last night; probably still pretty good.

Biggie cards are the best option http://www.bigwhite.com/card
You'll have to buy in town.

Gorge us! Even the selkirks. Noticing all the shit thats covered on the hill this year. A bunch of branches to duck under on all the traverses. Pretty psyched on spring this year

For sure! I poked around off od White Queen into Five Mile yesterday, good snow if you stay in the trees where the wind didn’t get it.
I wanted to get up higher past Half Dome and hit some of the north aspects into five mile, but the wind had got it pretty good. Click image for larger version.

Thanks, more of a strain/sprain in back of knee and calf I am thinking. Still no MRI. Been hitting bike and pyshio hard. Will be back for that sender, very cool feature. Not gorge btw.

How has stability been for everyone? We had easy results on our pits but nothing when skiing. Have heard it has been moving.

Anyone have an idea of how the snow is at the Apex backcountry or around Big White? Supposed to take newbie touring (confident boarder though) and thinking the gorge will be too spicy for a first timer

I have a friend who lives at biggie and tours there a lot. Said the wind hit hard this week. Would be kind of spicy I think with new snow and the weak layer under the wind f*ck. I am staying on groomers this weekend.

Red is still open. Whitewater closed.
Conditions have been awesome past few days.
I will be spending extra money on food and beverage as a way of thanking Red for staying open. Lots of people sunning on the deck yesterday after skiing.
    Stoked.
    Pics from yesterday.
