Hopefully not hijacking here.....has anybody been to Great Northern Snowcat operation? I have signed on with a group from work, and from the website it looks like it should be sweet. But....can anybody tell me if the terrain is worthy, or am I looking at a lot of low angle stuff? I have had mixed results on snowcat trips, so.... Also, any hints on areas or runs to suggest to the guides? Thanks in advance.

I havent been but a buddy is guiding down there. Vids and pics from him look really good They typically get a lot of snow and this year has been exceptional. Its good now and snow is on the way. Typical galena terrain is super fun with old growth glades and pillows. I try and make it down to trout lake once or twice a year for that terrain. Gladed to perfection.Temps can screw things most places but youve picked a good one. Have fun.

Skied most terrain In there tenure over the years- there is some good stuff however I don’t know what they r cat-skiing these days. With the Old owners the terrain they skied was super lame-new owners now and they r pushing deeper. They r pissing off the sled skiers in Ferguson with roads pushing into there territory so expect the good stuff to be shredded...

Unfortunately the ignorant idiots have ruined it for everyone else. Someone skied the Macdonald West prohibited area at Rogers Pass and as a result Parks Canada have closed NRC to Avalanche Crest until further notice

Any Revy Mags willing to show me around for a few laps at RMR? Never been before and will be skiing March 4-9 and would love to meet up for some local intel if possible. Beers and Lunch/Dinner provided of course. Staying in town at the Sandman, have rental car. Can ski.

OK, flame suit on. Now remember, I am a 61 year old jong that does not shred the gnar. All that said, for the last two years I have been trying to decide where to spend winter 2020/21 in BC and I am leaning towards Sun Peaks. Like Mammoth, it looks like there is tons of terrain and variety, but it is never mentioned in this thread, so I am guessing it is a pretty tame place (which may suit me just fine). Any opinions on spending 5 months there next winter? Better options for the non skiing Mrs. and I? Thanks

Heh, you've been south so long you've missed the evolving northern dialect.
I think your missus might get bored in SunPeaks village for an entire winter. Just guessing but I suspect she would rather spend her time in Kamloops or Kelowna, and you commute the 40min to either Tod Mtn or Big White. Vernon might be doable for her if you rent a cabin up on predator ridge or some such place. From all your posts it sounds like she is the one you must make happy, so maybe start with what she needs at a minimum while you are on the slopes for 3mo of southern BC winter.

Silver star better option. Only 20 minutes from downtown Vernon.

good point ^^ and its 23 minutes actualy
the okanagan is kinda crowded for a nartherner but the weather is way warmer for a nartherner, the snow at SS or Big white is usually dry and pow like
any of the 3 main cities in Okanagan are pretty nice, or at least they were back in the day and have lots of non skiing things to do
consider from K-town you can hit Silver star/ Big white/ Apex Alpine for a day trip
edit; werent you wanting to move narth, this would be a good try-onLast edited by XXX-er; 02-23-2020 at 10:13 PM.

Thinking of heading over to Revy from Banff for my days off this week for a change of scenery. How is the hill skiing? Looks like a fair bit of snow recently, but warm day time temperatures. Is the snow staying cold or is there a temperature crust forming?

Freezing levels have been well below the bottom of the stoke chair. Should be quite good up there. I was touring locally on my weekend and it was good to valley bottom on north aspects. Not super deep like january but should be good all over with plenty of deep pockets. Few squalls rolled through today and its supposed ti snow overnight

Headed to Nelson for 3 days of skiing at Whitewater. 27-29 February. Looks like they just got hit with the same storm we did. What to ski and anything to avoid? Any recommendations on eats in Nelson? Staying at downtown vrbo.

Similar question: touring out of Nelson AirBnB 2/28-3/3, any reccos considering there hasn't been that much snow in the last little while? Default is Whitewater-accessed BC.
Unicorn, don't know how fancy you like your dining experience but Red Light Ramen is pretty good, and not too hard to get a table at. Backroads Brewing and Torchlight Brewing both have good beer, but no food (I think?). Torchlight is better but a longer walk. Jackson's Hole Bar/Grill is probably the most reliable food option, have been there a bunch of times because we couldn't get in to anywhere else on a crowded weekend. It's nothing special but not bad. Oso Negro Cafe has really good breakfast sandwiches, wraps, and coffee.

Some more Fairy photos...
Best grips in the game?
Managed to sneak in one run at Sunset first day. Waited for hours for pick up, hut trip day in and day out is all about hurry up and wait for choppa. Rockies in distance.
Gothic Glacier is huge and flat
Approaching Pioneer Peak off of Gothic Glacier. Sir Sanford in background.
Gothic Spire
Amazing pillow zone that we skied down to Fairy Meadow proper below hut. Ended up blowing my knee on 2nd last day. Waiting for MRI. Old balls can't pound pillows like I used to.
2nd sunny day up high. Great snow. Had excellent stability all week as well.
On our way to Outpost Couloir. Skied really well.
