    Clipless lace up shoe?

In a bonehead move I left a pair of shoes at a campsite last weekend, they were by far my favorite shoes for riding clipless.

I looked to see if SIDI had a similar shoe to replace my beloved SIDI Epic lace up shoe and nothing. Looks like most manufacturers have switched to a the lame ass BOA closure system which in my past experiences has been nothing but lame, a pain in the ass and fails at the most inopportune times.

Any recs for a good stiff lace up shoe like my Epics?

Five.Ten makes a lace up SPD shoe, but it's nothing like the SIDIs.

Shimano, Giro, Scott, Pearl. Most brands make a lace up now.

Shimano XC5s. Definitely an XC shoe but it’s light and no nonsense.

Any reason you don't want one with a ratchet buckle over the instep?

I had a pair of those a while back and I always had to dick around with the ratchet to get my foot and ankle comfortable, never really worked out for me. That and if the ratchet mechanism got gunked up I had a hard time escaping those shoes.

Sidi is the brand in the past. All the other mtn bike shoe brands have lace up shoes that have stiff soles. Open your eyes OP.

Open your eyes indeed. Sidi’s “boa” is their proprietary system, works well, and every shoe essentially has a slightly different buckle. Go try some on somewhere then report back.

Yeah but will they take the absolute royal pummeling that my 8 year old Sidis have taken and still not drop a stitch?

Alrighty then all you almighty pious fuckers. I'm just asking for suggestions, not a run down on how well YOU think the shitty BOA system (no matter what kind of proprietary componentry) works.

Like Peruvian said, the Sidi's I lost were bomber. The Shimano shoes I had fell apart at the seams, the Specialized shoes I had with the BOA system were crap, the Giro's I tried on didn't fit.

Just looking for suggestions on similar type of shoes to my Epics (i.e. narrow foot fit, etc.)

Are you looking for something that is still based on a traditional bike shoe like the Giro Empire or are you looking for more tennybopper/skate shoe style. And if the latter, what size are you?
    No longer stuck.

If you have narrow foot try Giro.

If you liked the fit of sidi, I'd think the giro empire would be a good option.

Have Giro VR90 that I run for my mountain bike and cross bike. Great shoe, super stiff, seems strong enough and able to find fairly cheap. I like them so much I bought a back up pair. Fit is similar to old Sidis, but way stiffer. I like em.

Been happy with the ratcheting system on my Sidis. I used to be a lace purist, but the latest tightening systems seem to work well enough and are much quicker. I still think laces are best as far as fit, but they fall short everywhere else.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

A buddy put a lot of miles with a lo of hike a bike on those VR90s, they held up much better than I thought they would. I’ve got the road version, they’re comfy and powerful.
