    Fucking Ken Burns

He went and did it again. This country music thing is pretty damn good. Sometimes you have to wonder about his talking heads. (Wynton Marsalis? Wtf?) But, in the end, pretty good.

I really like every Ken Burns thing I have seen. But I have zero interest in country music.

be real curious what you like, because almost everything we listen to now came out of it somehow.
But maybe you just really dig Classical music made in Europe centuries ago.

’Popular’ country music like on most radio stations is drek, just like pop music in general. But roots country is sublime, just like roots rock. And whatever you call alternative in country.

As Woodsy pointed out, country music is pretty basic to rock and blues, etc.

Jazz, Hip Hop, R&B, Reggae, House, Techno... None of those genres came from Country Music.

Common ancestor (blues), yes. Came from, no.

There are a lot of country tinged stuff that I do like as well other southern influences. But the straight up country stuff is just somehow different. It just doesn't resonate with me and I just tune out. Dunno, seems like it could be catchy enough.

Not a real country fan either but there is some serious overlap with a lot of genres and this doc series is also 20th c popular culture history.

It's chronological and only into the early 60s by episode 3.

Last night was incredible. Cash and Elvis, Patsy and Willie. But the big takeaway for me was little Brenda Lee, holy shit! On the road at 12 years old, and that voice coming out of that tiny girl, my god man. She is something else.

In the place I come from, and was at through my early/mid 20s. There were two types of radio stations. in our vernacular of the time they were either Black or Country. We did not get what you might think of as a "rock" station unitl 1988. and even then the signal was weak as shit and went outta business in a year. I HATED country and I still do.

Those things said, mrs. MT coaxed me into watching last night and I was damn impressed. Still not a fan of the music whatsoever, regardless of how you argue AOR came out it. but it is very, very well done.
