My buddy and his small fam (wife and young kid) have been trying to find a slightly larger place than their current housing in Truckee and had folks outbid them/over asking on rentals more than once since April.

Parr and a friend were wrapping up their game of disc golf, when they noticed a crowd in the distance.
Parr said it became obvious the group wasn't familiar with the area. "They didn't really know what to do, and they started spreading out through the whole course.
Ohhhhh nooooo
Black kids invading the white disc golf course!!,!. . .

I haven't read the pages following your post, sorry if this is addressed. Where is all this closed area you carp about. Looking at teh hwy 50 corridor, isn't the entire El Dorado National Forest open to mountain biking? Except for Desolation Wilderness, is there anywhere you can't ride? There's gotta be a thousand miles of trails, abandoned logging roads, dirt roads, fire roads, and paved roads, all rideable. I haven't tried to map it, but I bet you can get from Pollock Pines to SLT on both the north and south sides of 50, never riding on 50 itself. Plenty of crawlers spend weeks out there, surely a biker could spend months or years.

If it's what I'm thinking of, there were several commercial busloads of them, and them wasn't black.

Sorry. My bad. It cracked me up reading about disc golfing dudes pulling a Karen. The faces of the kids were all blurred out. Sorry to inject race falsely. But the disc golfing dudes is still funny.
Carry on Tahoe and be safe.. . .

Hard to understand why Gov hasn't banned tour buses and chartered buses.

Air B n B and VRBO are one of the new drivers for huge wealth disparity in the USA. You can use good credit and cheap government supplied money to buy a second or third or fourth home and make money at the expense of local housing and quality of life. Hard to know what the future of the Tahoe Truckee area will look like but with explosive growth in Reno, Carson, Sacramento, foothills, and Minden you can bet it is not going to get less crowded. If the economy tanks totally or even significantly worse than now it might change but the look of that change may suck.
In the mean time you guys all going vegetarian and driving electric cars right? Climate change has not stopped and Tahoe regardless of how much $$ they put into WQ BMPs cannot withstand that alone.
Found this statement from UC Davis about air pollution contributions to the lake:
"Atmospheric deposition contributes about 55% of the total nitrogen, 15% of the total phosphorus, and 15% of thetotal fine (<20µm) particles to the lake, all which influence clarity."Last edited by Redsmurfer; 08-03-2020 at 11:56 AM.

Jeez, and I thought I fucked this thread up talking about unsanctioned trails. Now we’re on climate change? ;-)
I ski 135 degree chutes switch to the road.

Just talked to my god son today. They are from SF on a road trip in an RV up in OR. He was in a van with his family and maybe 10 others headed out to go zip lining. I just don’t get my friends. No way I’d do anything like that right now. If I can’t drive myself, I’m not going. Don’t want to be a spreader.

In other news Forest Service has trails marked in highlighted yellow as "Closed to motorized vehicles". At least 5 e-bikes went by multiple of these signs. The illiterates are up here in force. I know that the local Forest Service is working on the "don't ask, don't tell" theory or probably more correctly simply "don't tell 'cause we really don't want to have to address this issue".

I love e-bikes and ride them in Tahoe. There are lots of us who live here and ride e-bikes. People who want to become citizen cops and enforce rules that authorities are not interested in enforcing are dicks. Of course nothing, and I mean nothing, will ever convince you to not be dicks about this, so I'm just going to point out that you are being dicks.
"Holy Cow!" someone exclaimed from the back of the stationwagon.

in my opinion, some who thinks it's ok to skirt rules because authorities aren't enforcing them, is a dick
but to be fair I may be on your side soon too, because I am also growing old and infirmpowdork.com - new and improved, with 20% more dork.
