KW skied great today. No lines but the good snow was in specific locations. Some of the run outs were busy, for here. Nose is in prime shape.

The Official 19/20 Tahoe Ski Snowboard Thread. Plus bonus Bootfitting Recs!
Got 5 laps in at Sierra today in the rain before calling it, if there was any doubt about the snow turning yesterday there shouldn’t be any more.
Milked out one last good tour yesterday with frorider yesterday. A few windboard turns off the top of Jeanine’s yesterday, but mostly surfy turns on soft snow after that, beauty of a day to be walking around in the desolation .
Scoping out what lines look good
Frorider mentioned he likes Dicks
Hopefully Junuary won’t last long, happy New Years Tahoe

Did it rain in north lake?
KW zones are done. Rain this morning. Last four days were cold and windy offering fantastic lift skiing. Still fun out there today but will be something else when it freezes tonight.

Rose is on windhold so we didn't head up. Instead I'm steam-cleaning carpets (new puppy).
Webcams earlier looked like water droplets on the lens. Now, not much of anything but the little bit of precip that dances in front of the webcam on Slide Side looks mostly snow-ish...

Non-stop light rain up on Donner all AM and still pissing.
Might be trying to snow up there but this doesn't look good:

heavenly seems to be doing ok. Flakes flying on the east peak cam. none of the earlier showers seemed to hit them at least according to the radar, but who knows. wet snow hitting the ToT cam

Buddy reported a couple wind packed pow runs in pinnacles at heavenly before the moisture turned it into peanut butter.
On the bright side maybe it will accelerate acceptable conditions on the sunny sides

Drizzling and dreary all New Year’s Day in Tahoe City so there was no way I was gonna be able to drag the kid out. Sun and blue sky just poked out now. Can’t tell if it’s gonna last though

Looks like we will be at Alpine tomorrow and Squaw Fri/Sat. Whatever the weather. Hoping for sun and warmth.

Would it be complete madness to day trip squaw from the bay on Saturday? I Have been skiing out of state with family the past couple of weeks and haven't made it up yet this season. Don't want to deal with Sunday traffic. Crowds/this pending refeeze going to ruin everything? Should I just bring up the race skis?

regarding if it rained in North Tahoe: Took the kids to Boreal today, it rained until 3pm (when the sun came out) at all elevations (7700ft?). It was warm, so I'd think even 8k and above could have seen rain too.

Far as crowds go this weekend based on the bumper to bumper traffic flowing into south lake right now on 50, my guess it’s gonna be a busy one, guess the people with blacked out passes are arriving?

Skiing rime shards
2019 was one for the books. 2020s got some big shoes to fill but it’s started strong. Some solar chasing sounds kinda fun right now. We didn’t get our usual junuary last year if I recall

Rain, shit snow, crowded, bad light, windy at AM--but first day on skis since breaking my back in February and heart surgery in October, so all in all a great day. 6 easy runs was enough--still a lot of getting back into shape to do. I've been able to work my legs but not my upper body--the hardest thing for me was poling, but now I'm cleared for everything. Hoping to do my yearly ski trip with my son, probably someplace with a lot of groomers.
BTW--Timberline Cirque--if the people on the right get off at midstation and the people on the left stay on, will the people who get off get decapitated, or is the lift slowed enough at the midstation to get out of the way?

If today was a crowded shitshow despite crap light, wind, rain, hangovers, etc., the next few days will be the shitshow apocalypse
