Cleaning off carbon assembly compound residue?

Probably dumb question, but what's the best way to clean off carbon assembly compound? I serviced my dropper last week, and noticed that it was a real bitch to remove it from my frame. The last time I installed it, I (for the first time) followed the instructions and used carbon assembly compound. Clearly I didn't need it, and I'd like to sell the dropper in a week or two without it looking like it's been dipped in donut glaze.

Brake cleaner or denatured alcohol works great.

Are you talking about the grease with beads in it? Simple Green.
    No longer stuck.

Have you considered trying soap and water and a paper towel?

Carbon paste (stuff with little beads in it, feels like grease with grit) -- just wipe it off with a rag.

If you mean antiseize, that stuff doesn't wipe off cleanly -- use many rags, and/or degreaser. And don't use antiseize on a seatpost.

It was the carbon paste, the Park Tool stuff that's clear blue with beads. For whatever reason, over the course of a few months it hardened into a hard white crust. I couldn't scrape it off with a plastic brush, dish soap, & warm water.

I'll try a blast of brake cleaner, it's pretty strongly built up and feel like Simple Green won't be tough enough.
