I watched Touching The Void last night, so I think I am pretty much an expert on this subject.

There were a number of well known high altitude physiologists in my grad program, including "the great John West". Dude's house had fleas.

I thought fleas couldn’t live above 6000 ft.

Dr. West's place was in La Jolla, so sea level. Super nice guy, just have your clothes dry cleaned afterwards to ensure any (flea) eggs are destroyed.

I've seen chinchillas at 16000ft in Peru. They probably had fleas. Or maybe they were just huge fleas.

Makes sense. When I'm at altitude and near a radio I find myself wondering, "What the hell is this garbage?" And the answer is always the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
