    Ok stupid question i know.
I havnt been taking pics on a real camera in ages and have using my stupid iphone.
I want to download some pics but they all come up sideways. I have a mac and cant seem to find a descent way to rectify my situation.
What if "Alternative" energy wasn't so alternative ?

    So, I’ve stumbled on this....

I edit the pic on the phone by slightly reframing it...any amount works. Then it shows up here properly.

Now I just edit and crop a tiny bit off the edge and:

I don’t have any clue why it does that, it’s just a workaround

Stoopid iPhone photo taker here as well. I think my sideways thing from the iphone happens when I take a photo with the phone held vertically. The sideways posted photo doesn't seem to happen with the phone held in a horizontal position.

There must be an orientation field missing from the metadata from the phone pics that gets set in the editor. There’s probably a way to fix this using a batch script, but I’m too lazy to spend time on it.

You can batch rotate in photoshop and save as JPG, the iphone HEIC format is a pain. But iff it's one photo I use preview on a mac, even if it shows up correct but you know it's not, press the upper right rotation so it spins around and lands straight. No idea if there is a better way...

I'm guessing here, but when you take a pic, make sure the lens is near the top of the phone, not the bottom, and that may make it straight when you take it. Whether it's vertical or horizontal.

what app are you using? iphone user here & rarely have had sideways issue

billyk is correct in that the orientation tag in the metadata is the culprit -- if it gets deleted, the image goes back to the original orientation of the image, however the phone happens to tag that

You could use the app photoshop express. Or should just be able to go into edit and rotate.
