hmmm....if TGR got hacked and the email addresses stolen, joke's on them. The email addy I have in there is an old yahoo addy that hasn't been used in years. Just checked and anything and everything I ever had in there is gone. Empty box. Nothing to steal from me, anyway so let them have at it.

That's a relief. Those cheeseheads are nothing if not persistent.
So that leaves the Russians and the Chinese. If the latter, I'd bet the site was compromised when spook visited Yueyang and logged in at a Starducks, or whatever the fuck the counterfeit Starbucks is called there."timberridge is terminally vapid" -- a fortune cookie in Yueyang

Joke I know but this predates any tgr hack by at least a year. There was a large hack of certain websites using old unpatched software. I think my ticket websites were compromised. I keep waiting for someone to order me up some concerts.

Yeah, I keep getting an email from somebody demanding ransom for an old throwaway password that I don't even have a record of any more (though I recognize it as something I would have used). Whatever; I use strong, unique passwords for stuff that matters. Basically the way that this scam works is that the fruits of some hacks get posted online, and some genius decided to spam out to the people on the list they found in hopes of hooking a few suckers. Of course, other people have already tried those credentials at every bank and major e-commerce site on a long list.
Just today, my wife got a call from someone "from Apple" reporting that her iCloud account had been accessed twice in the past 24 hours, asking her to turn on a particular setting on her phone, and then go to helpme.net and follow instructions there. If you google helpme.net, you can see that it's a scam site associated with a virus. So, heads up on another variation of the phishing game.

So I get calls about my student loans. Did someone who took out student loans give them a bogus phone number (mine), or is the call a scam? I just ignore, but I'm curious.
I still get calls about my Dell computer being compromised and needing immediate attention or all data will be lost--true in a sense since I compromised the hard drive with a hammer. Also calls about an Amex account I don't have (which doesn't appear on my credit report--I checked.) I guess it's easier to cast a very wide net and catch a fish or two than to focus your scam to catch the same couple of fish.

Has anyone tried to change their password? I attempted to as a matter of SOP when this thread popped up but was unable to do so.
