I was having a hard time finding a shop here in Bozeman that could accommodate my limited availability. So I started my own. In the utility room of my dorm floor. Since we ski Big Sky and Bridger, most of what I do is coreshot and edge compression repair. Shown is the lineup for the night.

I used the Happy Norwegian exclusively last season and still use it to wax boards. No slip at all when scraping and brushing. Super solid there. But Yeahman is right, there are plenty of skis that don't fit. Thus, I upgraded to a proper vise.

May I ask a gaper question?

I'm ashamed to say I'm new at home waxing but have got the hang of most of it. However I find with most of my skis that there are smears or patches of wax left after scraping and brushing. I can dig them out with the "sharp" edge of the scraper but I don't feel like this is a good idea and it annoys me that I'm not doing it right.

What's the issue?

My first thought is that you aren’t actually scraping thoroughly or properly just as a guess. If it can be scraped, scrape. Sharpen the scraper maybe. Sharp scrapers are nice to have but even a credit card will get it done, it’s just more work. Could always check skis for flatness but you should still be able to scrape all the wax off of a not-flat base. If you’re trying to dig wax from small gouges or small imperfections on the base I wouldn’t bother with that, just scrape it level with the base.

Also, some waxes are more ‘gummy’ than others and tend to smear instead of peeling off nicely when scraping. Should still be able to get that wax off with enough effort though. Brushing gummy wax out of a structured base is difficult.

Don’t move on to brushing until scraping isn’t removing any more wax.

Also check your bases, if they aren't flat it's hard to scrape the wax out of the concavities.

Scraper sharpening is a regular part of tuning; depending on wax temperature, perhaps as often as after each pair of skis.

+1, it makes the act of scraping so much easier. I sharpen them 2-3x when waxing my daughters snowboard (I hate when she brings all 3 at the same time). Need to convince the wife I need a Rotobrush.

12” panser file screwed down on a flat surface. Having a vertical ‘fence’ to hold the scraper against makes it much nicer to use:




I clamp this down to a bench top since I don’t have space for a permanent location.

Just make sure to flatten your scraper every once in awhile
