Thread: Let’s see your home wax bench

I've established a tuning/waxing/repair service out of my dorm floor's common room to make a little extra money. $15 for a tune, $15 for a wax, $3 per inch of p-tex, $5 per inch of metal grip. I've been shocked by how little care some dudes pay to their sticks. It seems like every other ski has a coreshot from 2 seasons ago that has just been waxed over intermittently. One guy had a pair of season old R11s with a delam underfoot. Knew about it but figured he'd just trash them when it got too bad to ignore. Had to convince him that he should let me repair it.
I recently upgraded from some old swix diamond stones to Tools4Boards Hones and I highly recommend. Also just got a set of rotobrushes and will never go back. I'm currently using Purl wax as it is the cheapest I can buy in relative bulk (1lb). Yellow for hot waxing and a combination of purple and blue for the final.
I'll post some pics when I get back from winter break."somebody's gotta do it"

Let’s see you home wax bench
Similar setup here. I can use the (standard ikea) kitchen table or, especially for scraping or working on the edges, I have a coffee table on the porch.
The tubes keep them from sliding, kinda and clamping them holds the tubes, kinda. Have a rubber band tied from the rest of the tube to hold the brake.

I think the system works well but I just started doing my own waxing and tuning last year so I really don't have anything to compare it to. The stands are stable and don't slip around. Only thing I would be concerned about is whether a really thick ski like an ON3P would fit in the slots.

I used the Happy Norwegian exclusively last season and still use it to wax boards. No slip at all when scraping and brushing. Super solid there. But Yeahman is right, there are plenty of skis that don't fit. Thus, I upgraded to a proper vise.

For anybody curious the slot appears to measure about a centimeter. I think most skis are thinner than that, especially near the tip and tail, but sometimes you need to turn the platform to make the ski fit. NBD though, it's still stable like that.

I use the first one in the shop at home. Drawer liner needs to be replaced on the stands of the first one. The whole bench slides around if I'm pushing hard but that is not often. It is nice that it folds up if I need the space for something else. I don't like to throw stuff away so it's mostly made from leftovers of other projects.
The second one I made last season when I lived in a smallish condo and had only a hammer and screwdriver to work with. It worked out pretty well so I'm using it again this season.

If you haven't tried the Toko Liquid Paraffins, you should, they are very good. Quick, easy and fast, plus no mess.

The shiplap wasn't my doing, but I'm now a fan. Pretty simple way to end up with a wall that's easy to mount stuff on.

I was having a hard time finding a shop here in Bozeman that could accommodate my limited availability. So I started my own. In the utility room of my dorm floor. Since we ski Big Sky and Bridger, most of what I do is coreshot and edge compression repair. Shown is the lineup for the night.
