This reminds me of the age-old San Francisco naming debate.
You can call it San Francisco.
You can call it "The City".
You may refer to it as "SF".
But you NEVER call it "Frisco". Anybody calling it "Frisco" is a tourist, transplant, or a douche bag.
Our peeve up here in Tahoe is the use of the term "Sierras". Sierra is already plural you tourons!

Well I've seen "Arapahoe Basin" a few times in a phone book
And I've seen it on siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigns where I've skied
