Shoddy Construction?
I’m not an engineer or anything but does this look unsafe to you guys?
It’s a covered play area at my daughter’s school. Area gets pretty windy in fall/winter too. Support beam is sagging and there’s no bracing. Looks like a 40-50mph gust could collapse this thing if hit at the right angle.

that sag certainly doesn't breed confidence that a professional designed that thing...
even just looking at it, the depth of that member seems wrong for the apparent span...no deeper than the rafters?

Any collar ties? That is some useless corner bracing as well.
Built by a group of parents one weekend?
Totally not safe, talk to admins yesterday.

yeah, looks to me there's a sag in that ridge. With no ties, or other bottom chords that thing is a mess.

Yea. I’m going to bring it up to the school. Thanks for the input.

That STOP sign should be at the gate, so they fucked up that one too.

Building a structure like that requires a permit and inspections damn near everywhere in western Washington. Is this on the Ridge? No way was that permitted/inspected.

Looks like something I'd start building until one of my builder buddies stops by and says don't do that.

Yea. Snoqualmie Ridge.
I’m going to talk to the owner and then maybe email the city if it’s not fixed.

Side beam is also sagging - between the middle posts. No connection of posts to ground.
Also, 4x4 posts? You get a snow load out there?

Very unsafe. DO NO LET YOUR KIDS UNDER THAT THING LET ALONE ANYONE IF YOU HAVE THE PULL.
The structure supporting the roof is not adequate. Those legs will snap like toothpics under snow load. Horizontal beam is incredibly stressed.

That’s barely adequate as a wood shed.

Jesus. That thing has been up for a couple years. Now I’m pissed.

Over protective parents
Things totally fine
I've done a couple playgrounds in my day and that looks like what we call a picnic shelter

Kids are bad drivers. One wrong turn in the little pink car into one of the columns and...

Besides the obvious lack of resistance to shear--It's hard to see what is going on with the bottoms of those posts--are they on piers at grade or do they go below grade?. If below they are certainly rotting. And if they are on piers on grade they are still rotting.

I'd want to know how far those 4X4s go down in to the ground and how much concrete is holding them? That might be totally fine if it were framed with walls around it. Looks like a kite ready to fly without them though.. Enough ballast under the beams and might be OK but I'd want to see the building inspector's opinion for that thing..
Go that way really REALLY fast. If something gets in your way, TURN!

A simple test is the Godzilla test when evaluating structural integrity. If Godzilla were on the loose and you needed to seek shelter, would you hide under this structure?
If the answer is "no," it does not pass the Godzilla test."timberridge is terminally vapid" -- a fortune cookie in Yueyang
