    Warnings

    4:32 AM MST Friday 06 December 2019
    Snowfall warning in effect for:

    Banff Nat. Park near Banff
Banff Nat. Park near Lake Louise
Banff Nat. Park near Saskatchewan River Crossing
Clearwater Co. near Siffleur Wilderness Area

Snowfall with total amounts of 10 to 20 cm is expected.

A band of heavy snow is expected to begin Friday evening in the Grande Cache - Hinton region, and last until Sunday morning. Heavy snow is also expected to affect Jasper, and higher elevations of Highway 93 between Jasper and Banff, from Friday morning until Saturday afternoon.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations.

Snowfall warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected.

Great few days at Marmot. Fresh snow, early season crowds and today it cleared up for some bluebird Peak (or at least 2/3rds) laps.

Stellar conditions at the Banff/Louise 3 this week with today being especially good - perfect light and blower snow.

I was too busy skiing and then recovering to answer this important question. I would say average up high and above average down low. Not very many people, Friday or today. Lots of soft snow here and there. Of course some rocks but reasonable. Way better start than last year. It was a better than last year 2 weeks ago when I toured up to prayer flags.

That sounds pretty good. Certainly better than it's been at Whistler and will be once I get back to Kimbo and Fernie.

I might need to stop at KH to ski on my way home after the 13th.

You need rock skis but you can still find some low grade semi tracked here and there.

Anyone know how to figure out when fernie might open more terrain?

I don't see much "talk" on their snow report... it's just numbers, and those numbers are not great right now with only 2 runs open.

I have a trip planned for this weekend and thursday is a "flex" day... if a bunch of new terrain will open up that day going out early would likely be worth it.

Word is that Whitepass will be opening tomorrow (Tuesday, Dec 10), along with Lizard Bowl. I don't know if there us enough snow to ski down from Whitepass or if you'll have to download Timber. Sounds like conditions up high are really good.

Like a lot of ski hills Fernie now mainly communicates info via FB. So that says:

“ TIMBER BOWL WILL BE OPEN TOMORROW!
At 9 am the Timber Chair will be open to the public. The White Pass Chair will be running with good coverage and great skiing throughout the Timber Bowl to the White Pass bottom.
*Downloading will be available, and recommended.”

    Thanks for the info guys.

Too bad I won't be there when it's first opened but I'll take the fact that more terrain will be open when I'm there.

That seems to be a constant answer so far this season.

I think I have more days so far this season than I’ve had in the past three.

Both Whitepass and Bear where skiing pretty good. I didn't get up until late afternoon and still found some fresh lines here and there. I skied down to base from Whitepass but wouldn't recommend it unless you're on rock skis.

Firm groomers at Panorama this afternoon. Coverage on anything that's not man-made is still thin.

    White pass is gooooood today!

Skiing to the bottom is pretty doable but the bottom 1/3 or so is packed down high moisture content snow and kind of work/sketch.

KH skiing really well. double header and terminator opened today. North facing alot still not open. Talked to some people who did hour glass ( north side ozone) then Brazilian off of rudies and they said were great runs. Not ready to use anything bit rock skis but a pretty good start.

Another nice refresh at fernie and white pass is great again.

Summer road /ski out is little better than yesterday but the very bottom is still pretty marginal.
