Someone got pow turns up on Roberston last week! Does that make it early turns or super late season turns?

I have a general Canadian Rockies question, not a ski specific one, but this seems like as good a place as any to ask. What websites do you look at for weather forecasts/models for the Rockies? I'm doing a backpacking trip on the Berg Lake Trail in two weeks, and want to start keeping an eye on the weather.

no, but banff swap is Oct 13ish (thanksgiving weekend)

Less lineups, less new crap that is not discounted, etc

calgary is usually a week+ after banff

Just FYI, I have heard the Calgary radar ration is down for 6 weeks. Hence, any radar and associated forecasts are being covered...badly...by far more remote locations.

Forecasts are extremely inaccurate as a result.

So beware in trusting the current forecasts....

calgary radar is getting upgraded. there's a mini-station set up so if you go to EC's weather site you'll get some data for the city, but not the general view of the province down south.

    Calgary ski swap is stupid.
Stupid as a buyer, stupid as a seller.

    Stupid.

I like the Banff swap. It’s the best run for buyers and most organized/easiest for sellers.

I usually go out and volunteer with Mntlion in Banff. I may not make it this year(camping?), but I’m going to try.

duly noted. we're going to banff. we only need ski boots for a fast growing grom, nothing special.

they sell a $10 early bird ticket, that is WELL worth buying if you are hunting for something specific. Usuaully 1 ticket = 1 parent + 1 kid.

but yes, banff swap is way better

Thank you to everyone for the weather forecast recommendations. Not sure I can put a lot of stock in Windy, it seems far too precise to be believable (i.e. spot temp and precip forecasts for areas 100 miles from the nearest weather station seem too good to be trusted), but it's just another tool in the quiver I suppose.

Looks like it might be an awfully cold backpacking trip. Regardless, I'm stoked to see a part of the continent I've never been to before, and I do have a 0F down sleeping bag. I'll be staying in Banff Wednesday October 2, if any mags want to grab a beer or two after I stuff myself at Chuck's that evening.

I see that about the cold. Bringing a whole lot of warm clothing on this trip, at least for the camping stretch.

I ate at Chuck's when I was in Banff back in April, and I think it was the second reservation I made when planning this trip, after my Berg Lake permit.
