    SKYFALL

Crazy news coming out of Russia. A nuclear explosion killed a bunch of scientists and is causing radiation monitors to spike across Northern Europe.

They were testing a newly designed nuclear powered cruise missile when it blew up. The area is being evacuated.

    https://www.wsj.com/articles/russia-...te-11565726537

NATO has code-named the new missile the SKYFALL, hence my thread title.

Sounds like we pursued similar tech 50-60 years ago. Abandoned it.

Who cares about the warmingz. We’re ensuring our terrarium is toxic and unlivable. Nuclear power needs way more thought, maybe another couple of hundred years.

I read a book a few years ago, Physics for Future Presidents. It’s a college class at Berkeley. The book explained different types of radiation, optics and other stuff a president may need to know. It was great, but it’s clear the author is a sold out atomic energy apologist. Every time he dismissively explained away rational concerns with science, that’s when my sirens went off.

It really has me concerned for future generations. A super healthy guy I know kinda went off the deep end after Fukushima. Said we all gonna die.

Pffft, who cares, as this weapon is to be used after the USA has launched a first strike. The world has already gone up in flames and radiation at that point.

Back in the olden days at the height of the Cold War with the commies, I built the counter measures for their weapons for the US Navy. Russian technology was surprisingly advanced but their production and deployment methods were suspect. Based on the exhaustive testing I was part of the US weapons systems could be relied on to work. I always figured the USSR never felt confident their weapons would launch and hit the target properly and knew our counter strokes would hit them and this kept the bear from getting too aggressive.

    SKYFALL

We’re eventually all fucked. We’ve only had the capacity to destroy the entire world for about 50 yrs, I’ll give us,maybe, another 50. That’s not an opinion, I’m not being negative, it’s a matter of when, not if.

^^^ all dead of cancer within the next 5 years??

I just ordered a radiation measurement device for smartphones., Although the EMP would probably render a smart phone useless if you're close enough to be in real danger.

    Nope that's how it works.

By this time serious questions about its viability had been raised, such as how to test a device that would emit copious amounts of radioactive exhaust from its unshielded reactor core in flight, as well as its efficacy and cost. ICBMs promised swifter delivery to targets, and because of their speed

Scientists now have decisive molecular evidence that humans and chimpanzees once had a common momma and that this lineage had previously split from monkeys.

It was an "added bonus" for Project Pluto https://jalopnik.com/the-flying-crow...ica-1435286216 One plan was for it to drop its payload of nukes then crisscross some region killing people with its sonic boom and discharged radiation. A true doomsday weapon.
