    ^^Nice job man.

My hunt plan was perfect for opener. We were up high early in a spot where I know the elk go when pressured. Sure nuff two bulls trotted out into an opening about 300 yards away. No clue we were there. I said let's sneak down this way and intercept them for a closer shot, but my buddy had the fever and was like fuck that I'm shooting. Clean miss. Tracked them all day and got close one more time but no shot opportunity.

Then today he forgot his tags in his truck. "Let me use your tag if I shoot one." Sigh.

I really like the guy and I can't say he was wrong to take the shot opportunity. But it does remind me why I like to hunt alone most of the time.

    Heh.

That's why I have been hunting solo more than with my buddy. Great guy and all, but solo I know any mistakes made are 100% my own.

Gonna let the pressure ease a bit and get back out there Tuesday. Possibly to a new spot that is pretty far away, but the intel is that it's loaded.

Got the fraggles out today and shot a few roosters. Felt good to be bird hunting and the dogs are really working well together. I have no doubt running two pointers greatly increases results.

Nice work MoN. Makes you wonder if missing the doe was just a sign.

Hammered em today, took ~5 hrs but we got it done! 3 man limit. Click image for larger version.

    Fall Days Afield 19/20

^ Thats where all our birds up here went! Didn’t fire my gun Saturday. First time in a long time I’ve seen it that bad.

Thanks! Pretty excited! Maybe it was a sign. Confidence with the bow was .. thin. Went back out with the rifle (after all, rifle season). Nothing dramatic, he gave me quarter away and I took it. Fell where he stood. Very thankful to have him. Most meat I've ever harvested from a Muley. By 10%.
Marinating a roast: pulled venison Bamburritos tomorrow

Dang! Soy marinate and grill all that?

Only decent bird meal I ever made is duck tortilla soup.

Went out on my first chukkar hunt. It was awesome. Spent a couple days following some buddies around learning the ropes. The dog was great, the dudes where good at teaching and their boat was sweet too. They brought home a few birds.

A mix, I process most all the birds for my buddies. Breast em out, save the legs and hearts. Spoonbills go in the grind pile for sausage, have a bunch from last year I'll cut as close to 50/50 with quality pork trim. I'll save some breasts skin on depending on bird/fat levels for a variety of dishes. A well prepared mallard breast is divine. Legs will go towards ravioli filling and simmered curry. With birds from last year we'll do jerky and summer sausage too.

Lots of great pics, awesome to see everybody getting after it.

Re duck recipes: Here's my mom's. Her duck was famous among my dad's circle of hunting friends who always complained that their wives didn't know how to cook duck (which did not endear my mom to said wives but whatever). It was my favorite meal growing up, and she served it at countless dinner parties. One thing though that she didn't write on this paper: my dad and I recall that after roasting, she would let it cool completely, and then carve it up. Then she would re-heat it in a covered roasting pan at like 200 degrees with a cup of water in the bottom to make juice. Then serve. It was tender and moist and really had a great flavor. Sorry, can't get the pic to go straight. And where she wrote "5 for 2 1/2 hours" I think she meant 3 ducks, not 5 ducks.

Solid stoke so far! All these pics makes me want to start bird hunting and get a dog.

Also thinking about going after Turkey next spring . Haven't done that in like 20 years.

Nice dude. Birds piling in here. Lucky them i have to work and can’t get out until Saturday. One of our spots had over 300 honks and close to 200 mallards fucking off on it today per my buddy who went and looked at it. Now i hope no one else finds it before Saturday.

Buddy of mine sent this to me last night. This is a SC deer just over the line showing up on game camera on his property.
He still looks young in body, but it’s a solid 12 pointer. If the weather cooperates it may go down this weekend.

    Yeah that's a shooter eh?

Had a couple youngsters grappling in the yard yesterday. First sign I've seen of any rut activity.
