The cabin had swayed just enough, just enough past 16.4 degrees that the detachable grip torsion tube would impact the sheaves and/or the rope catcher. The 15 mm gap was naught and the cabin ripped off the haul rope and fell 15 meters to the ground. No one was in that cabin.

Is this a standard Dopplemeyer design used on all their detachables? If it's as sketchy as alleged, hopefully it's an S+S special.

Some have the big springs and some have the torsion tube. Would seem that a grip slide event on the first section would be fatal. They could mitigate the de-ropement risk at the towers with guides on the tower side to restrict the cabin from swinging at an angle that could repeat the first disaster they had. Imagine if the accident during pre-opening had happened during regular operation ...

Are the authorities grasping at straws, or do they have a suspect and just need someone to point the finger so as to bomb proof their file?

    Article content

“Despite the vandal having approached the tower, ascended the tower and cut the cable, each of which ought to have been detected by multiple components of the USI system and to have triggered the alarm, the alarm was not triggered at any point up to or during the security breach,” says the suit.

“As a result of the security breach and the alarm failure, the vandal was able to sever the cable, which parted catastrophically. The loss event caused substantial damage and destruction to the gondola and its components.”
