Leavenworth Skier's Latest Automotive Folly - More Land Cruisers???

Well, I figure now is as good as any to let the cat out of the bag.

    TLDR:
    • LWS now owns a cruiser shop
    • They do cool stuff like Frame Off restorations on FJ40s.
    • Will offer really great products very soon - both from vendors and things they make.
    • Want to work with mags on anything Cruiser Related - there may be a discount depending on what it is.
    • I will post cool shit in this thread from time to time. So if you have a thing for Cruisers, stay tuned.
    • LWS is not leaving the holster biz - just taking all the sleep and weekends away from himself. Which is why there have been limited posts on TGR.

    A little backstory:

I have TGR to thank for this. From all of the "what car" threads I discovered the amazingness of the Toyota Land Cruiser. That lead to a search for one - which culminated in a Mag on here (BS720) offering me a sweatheart deal on a 1994 FZJ80. He said if I wanted it, I had to come get it, otherwise he was going to have it towed to who knows where. It had all the makings of a good rig, with some bad - including copious rust, a leaky exhaust, bad brakes, bad axle seals, no headlights, etc. So obviously I was all over it, and promptly flew down and paid him for it sight unseen.

We drove it back with little mishap - although driving from San Francisco, CA to Bend, OR with no headlights may have been a little risky.

We named her Vivian after Julia Roberts character on Pretty Woman. Fixing the issues on her has been a labor of love, but I have really come to appreciate how solid Toyota built these trucks.

Since buying Vivian, I've owned 2 more Land Cruisers, another 94 FZJ80 now owned by Kopi_Red - and my wife's current daily driver - a 2000 LX470 we bought from a Mag off here in Lot 4 at Alpental (FJ62). I still drive Vivian 1 -2 days a week.

So it's easy to say I'm really excited about these trucks.

The reason why I bring all this up is because Vivian brought me to this next thing...

About a month ago I was driving Vivian and noticed an unexplained squeeking. Investigating further I found that a mouse and her babies had made a home in the rear quarter panel and chewed up all the wiring for the tail lights, speakers, etc. Additionally with the Maggot Cruiser gathering on the horizon I wanted functional A/C for driving to Stanley.

As many of you know, I'm in the middle of a move from Washington to Idaho. So I decided that I would find a place to do the work on Vivian (I hate 12V, and I knew I needed new A/C parts). Rather than take her to Torfab in Everett (my normal go to Cruiser repair place) I decided to find a repair place in Idaho.

After a quick google search, I found these guys: https://www.thelandcruisershop.com/

I brought Vivian up, and met with the Owner of the shop, Joe. We ended up talking for 3 hours. I saw a shop with a ton of potential and was intrigued. But it seemed that it could use some help getting the word out and developing the business.

Fast forward a few weeks... and after time hammering out the details... I'm now part owner of a Land Cruiser shop in Sandpoint, Idaho! Joe and I are partners. Joe gets to do what he loves, which is build amazing Land Cruisers and I get to build another business in a world I love. Couldn't have asked for a better situation.

I can't be more excited to be involved with an amazing shop and a great partner. (and for those wondering, yes I am still doing the holsters and no I am not leaving.)

So, that's right... there's now a Maggot owned and operated Land Cruiser shop. Have already had a few mags up to check things out. Hope to host a Maggot cruiser gathering at the shop soon!

We work with all makes and models of Land Cruisers, including Lexus. Our big emphasis over the last few years has been full frame off restorations but I'm working on becoming a dealer for a lot of really great off-road brands like ARB so we can expand from just doing restorations to also doing installs, and offer parts on our website. We also have a spin-off brand we're going to launch that caters more toward the overland crowd, vs. being Land Cruiser specific as well.

We are also starting development on suite of products to fix many of the shortcomings of the 60 and 80 series Land Cruiser. For now if anyone wants to support us - we have t-shirts and stickers available. But stay tuned as there's some very exciting stuff we're working on.

I will be updating this thread with new products we develop, and show some behind the scenes on some of our cool builds.

So if any mags need parts, service or repair on their Land Cruisers, or would like help sourcing a good truck (we will have our dealers license soon and will be able to assist in import or buying at wholesale) please reach out.

Our capabilities include custom fabrication and we have a paint booth with some experienced painters that can do show quality glass-out work and trail rig good 'nuff paint or raptor liner. On parts, depending on the brand and our agreement I might be able to extend a Maggot discount on both parts and install. Also if you have any Land Cruiser related questions, feel free to ask in this thread - I have some guys working for me that have been doing Land Cruisers for a very long time.

Here's a few pictures of one of our complete builds that just sold in the Orvis catalog:

I'll be up to visit before too long, maybe to bail you out of the shop to ski at least one day this winter

Awesome. Little house in Sandpoint closes Monday. Have camper space and floor space.

Had a beautiful Blue FJ60 that I just sold to Maggot that made me think of your dad's truck.

One of our neighbors is doing a Hybrid swap on a Delorian, so anything is possible with deep enough pockets...

haha that'd be nutty... vintage Toyota Highace body would be cool.

I happen to know a relative who has some wacky 70-series with a 120+ inch wheelbase. It'd be perfect...

    Congrats, that's awesome.

One of my brothers had an FJ 40. Another brother, third gen 4runner. And me, four different hilux/4x4/tacomas.

Lots of Toyota love in my family.

I have an FJ40 at the shop that we could build to your spec and ship in a few months.

Also have an FJ62 we’re doing a mild restoration on and plan on listing on Bring a Trailer, could be convinced to drop a 400hp LS3 v8 motor in it and sell it on maggot discount direct.
