Almost got smoked by an out of control car last night, sitting in my back yard

On a corner lot on a pretty busy street (also a school zone). Was sitting outside alone last night enjoying a beverage and bowl, enjoying a delicious medley of basil, weed and brugmansia flowers.

Heard a car in the distance going stupid fast. We're on a bit of a bend. Hear the tires starting to loudly protest, saw the lights from the headlamps coming directly this way. Before I could even react it smashes through the corner of the fence, hits a massive willow tree, bounces off that spinning taking out more fence. At this point there's fire wood logs, busted fence including gnarly footlong sections of 4x4 post, tomato cages and a gotdamn wheel barrow airborne going by me.

I got real lucky. I was sitting ~ 15 feet away from the now gone fence. I could feel that debris flying around me but I didn't get a single scratch. If the willow wasn't there to take the impact I would not be here anymore. Plain and simple.

So get this. Vehicle was a Bentley. Driver fled on foot. Police say vehicle doesn't belong to the guy who fled, but based on the wallet (!) left in the car he is known to use the vehicle.

Here's some probably sideways pics, you can see where I was happily sitting there.

Damn, that's a long mark on the grass before he hit the fence, not even that much of a curve.
Move upside and let the man go through...

Assuming there is insurance on the Bentley, unless the vehicle was stolen.

If you're the home owner you'll get a brand new fence for your trouble. Seriously, count yourself lucky and go buy a lottery ticket.

Looks like that sharp curve came out of nowhere. There should be warning signs.

That tree got torn in half in the third picture

    Yikes. Glad you're okay. Crazy.

How far into enjoying your bowl were you because that would have been pretty gnarly if you were totally baked.

Wow! Chalk that up as one of your nine lives.

My brother in law, as a toddler, was sleeping in his crib when a car came crashing into the house and his nursery. 5’ they say

Yeah but the rush of your head and heart going from 0 (baked) to 200 (adrenaline onslaught) while trying to wrap your mind around the unfolding events would be something else.

Damn my friend, glad you're OK.

Good thing you were getting safe...living north of the border must be casual these days, eh?

Did you get up or just sit there as nothing was hitting you? Ha...

Now ya got fence kindling for next winter, since I see log rounds need splitting.
    Mind the Kittehs.

People prolly slo down driving by when they smell the Kind from just over the fence. Maybe take a lap.

File a claim with Bentley owner's insurance. If the driver was, as you said, "known to use the car", then that is a permissive use situation. Both that driver's insurance and the car owners insurance are available to you.

Have his insurance pay for some bollards or a big ass rock.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.
