This.
As pointed out several times, crows/ravens are incredibly smart - more frontal cortex neurons per lb than a chimp.
That’s why they are tricksters in the aboriginal traditions. Too smart for their own good
Carl most likely reconned the backyard and figured it was as safe as it was gonna get for a wounded crow. Sounds like he guessed right.

Crows are def cool and a blessing. I got one that likes to steal cat food. I let him. He's super smart. We had a 5 minute stare down the other day. He blinked and cawed and flew away. I'll try to get a pic one day.

Get him something he can hop up on to get him off the ground. There is a fungal disease that will hit birds that have prolonged contact with the soil called aspergillosis. He needs a retreat from cats, et al. as well. And it might spur him into flight.
Unfortunately, they often fall prey to Red Tailed Hawk and Great Horned Owls, as well as other four legged critters, coyotes, bobcats, etc.
Very bright birds. In order to properly convert this thread to a polyasshat thread to more fully enrage the liberal left frequenting here...... (insert latest democratic blunder of your choice).

Be glad you don’t have a great white shark problem too while you’re counting blessings.

The Savoyards say the souls of alpinists/skiers who perish in the Alps return as crows to soar among the peaks.
So Carl musta previously been a racoon that perished in your dumpster.
I'd love crows more if it weren't for the noise.Originally Posted by blurred

We had a pet crow named Sam for a couple years when I was a kid. My sister found him under a tree with a broken wing. We did the whole cardboard box, heat, food thing until he got healed up. He would chill in the nearby fields with his friends, but if you were in the backyard he would come and hang out. Coolest fucking pet ever. He would steal cigarettes out of my dad's hand and fly around in circles with a lit butt.
