Rutger Hauer - RIP

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

It is an odd bit of synchronicity that Roy Batty, his character in Blade Runner, also died in 2019 (per the movie).

Oh, and don't forget his role in Ladyhawke! I love that cheesy movie but Hauer made it better than it deserved to be, which is actually true of a lot of films he was in.

THE BLOOD OF HEROES, which was written and directed by David Webb Peoples, the co-screenwriter of Bladerunner, is a pretty damn good, low bidget sci-fi B-movie, as well.

I regret to say that I haven't seen all of those so thanks for mentioning them. Will need to brush up on the Hauer filmography! Hitcher was good. I also remember liking Flesh+Blood.

Always liked his 80s action flick, Wanted: Dead or Alive. Had the great Fuck The Bonus ending with the bad guy Gene Simmons ( yeah, that Gene Simmons).

Watched A BREED APART last night.
Made me realize that Bladerunner pretty much killed Hauer's career...either that or he should have gotten a new agent as pretty much everything he did in the wake of Bladerunner had him playing an enigmatic loner with crazy hairdos.
Don't get me wrong, I have enjoyed much of his post-Bladerunner work, but he most definitely got typecast, especially if you go back and deep-dive his pre-Hollywood Dutch work...he was a leading man in Holland, but got relegated to character actor and B-movies in Hollywood for the most part, which is a shame.

A BREED APART is a kitchsy 1980s B-movie with a cool cast. Hauer spends the film riding around on a horse shooting poachers with a crossbow and then macking on Kathleen Turner. Also featuring Brion James, Donald Pleasance, and Powers Booth. Not great cinema, mind you, but highly entertaining.
