Shit there were a lot of them on the road. 10 years later not so much but the Chevette and Pontiac Acadia were still on the road to my surprise
My mom had a Chevette and it was fun telling my friends "my mom drives a Vette"

those were all about the straightline speed and the aerodynamics would slow the car down more than the brakes

Driving those 68's home from the bar it was discovered hitting a construction zone sign at 50mph would send it right over the top of the car without hitting anything, same with the profile of the Datsun 240Z but you had to be going fast enough

also the aluminium radiators in those vettes was at an angle which bounced the waves from radar guns up into space so the Vette had a very small radar foot print

In the early '70s, Corvette came in a 350 and 454. The 454 was heavy, and didn't handle that well. The 350 was lighter, handled much better, and was easily worked on. Add a Holley manifold and Hooker headers and you had a beast. To me, the 454 was the beginning of new philosophy for the corvette that morphed into those underwhelming cars of the late '70s that lasted more than a decade.

At age 17, driving an L88 once in awhile was both exhilarating and an adventure. When learning to drive a clutch, I had access to an L88, a CJ5 and an MG Midget. Three totally different experiences.

Just got a ride yesterday in an old friend's 19 Z06, 650 hp. Firmly planted into the seat when accelerating and he was not going all out. Sweet lines and red/black interior are money/ Gorgeous car.

To me it was catalyctic converters and other power suffocating legislation along with the 55 mph speed limit that morphed muscle cars of the early 70s in to underwhelming cars of the late 70s..

All that, too. I also remember Sunoco 260 gasoline having 107 octane and going from $.35 to about $2/gal, having an even license plate, and only being able to get gas on Tues., Thurs. and Sat., or something like that.

Yeah. That happened. Right in the middle of me being cool with a little fucking ski boat that we had. We used to be able to drive that fucking 75 hp Mercury engine around all goddamn day fer like about five or six dollars which was easy enough to scrounge up between all the change in the pockets of about five or six people. The chicks were diggin its....

Then all the sudden gas went from about $.30 a gallon to about $1.15 a gallon. Fucking ruined all the good times. Seriously, The fucking gas stations couldn’t even handle it. None of the pumps were designed to sell gas for more than a dollar. So you had to fucking split things by 50%, and then pay double at the fucking cash register. What a goddamn pain in the ass.

The chicks were not impressed with our new found poverty levels.....

Anyone else remember that the pumps had rollers with numbers 1-9 X2 instead of digital readouts? And they were only capable of going up to 99 cents per gallon.. So, they set the price at half what it really was.. Say 55 cents for $1.10 per gallon then you paid double what the pump said..

Is it realistic that you can walk into a Chevy dealer and walk out with a mid engine, sub 3 second 0-60 car for $60k?

If that’s the case, fuck yeah - at a quick glance it looks like a Ferrari 488. This is a legit super car for the price of options on a Italian car.

Okay, the interior and build quality will be shit and it has the prestige of a Pontiac compared to Euro supercars but I can’t wait to see this thing on a track with the standard import super cars. And I’ll say again that it looks amazing.

And FWIW, I’m the dude who’s first lottery winning purchase will be a mid engine Ferrari.

No. A 2LT trim will probably be 70-75k. They will sell loaded up cars first.

Which leads me to the 76k GT500 with 265 more hp and a manual trans.

Wonder what the used market for C7 is going to do? Kerbeck Chevy in Atlantic City is selling new LT-1 coupes for $44,800.
