FS: '15 Subaru Legacy AWD sedan in Western Mass @~106k miles for $8,495

Safe, reliable, roomy, and practical all-wheel-drive transportation, with surprisingly loaded features for this trim level (e.g., rear back-up camera, infotainment touch screen, six interior lights, Bluetooth with voice command, optional Starlink subscription for satellite radio etc., tilt/telescope steering wheel, 60/40 split fold-down rear seatback, eight cupholders including two in center rear fold-down armrest, and so many cabin storage options that you’ll seriously forget exactly what you stored where!).

One-owner vehicle in perfect mechanical condition (all maintenance and wear items replacement performed at the dealer -- but never needed any repairs!) with only the usual expected cosmetic imperfections for this amount of mileage. (What might appear to be discolorations in the exterior pictures are just lighting effects.)

During last maintenance at 104,524 miles, tires (Nokian WR G3 “all weather” i.e., all-season tires with the official “mountain snowflake” rating symbol for severe snow conditions, so best of all worlds) were at 4/32” and brake pads were at 4mm front & 6mm rear. Battery replaced at 98,371 miles.

Only the optional “all weather” rubber floor mats have been used, so the standard carpet-style floor mats (not pictured) are still brand new. Yakima roof rack also available, with Yakima ski attachment and Thule bike attachments (none of which are pictured).

Both of the original key fobs are included, plus the original valet key (i.e., unlocks driver’s door and can start car, but will not unlock glove box), along with a few key copies that will only unlock the driver’s door and unlock the glove box (but will not start the car, since they lack the chip).

As shown in the picture of the window sticker, color is officially Tungsten Metallic, but as shown in all the exterior pictures, looks more like a very light beige.

“currently making its way across the Atlantic”

Jonathan, my curiosity has been raised. What did you decide on? Did you take advantage of that Volvo custom car offer? Or did you replace the car with a boat?

Taking the earning of my turns more seriously now: cargo e-bike to the trailhead!

    Well, maybe not.
    Okay, definitely not.

    Actually, VW Arteon.
(Noticed it first via a promotional blurb in the magazine for my ski instructor association, which had partnered with VW after splitting from Subaru, although my ski patrol membership still gets me discounts with Subaru, which we used for yet another Impreza for my wife.)

    Original criteria:
    • AWD
    • Sedan
    • Sufficient rear seat legroom for adults
    • 60/40 down rear seat fold down

Then I decided that I wanted "my" rear seat pass-through back.
I had this on my 1990, 1995, and 2006 Legacy sedans.
But this feature sadly disappeared with the 2015 Legacy redesign, and is not returning with the 2020 redesign.
I got away the past half-decade with sticking my daughter and her little buddies on the 60 portion of the rear seats while our skis took the 40 portion, then they're getting too big for that.
(The kids, that is, not the skis!)

And after some further research, I just loved the hatchback designs that look and feel like a sedan yet offer SUV/crossover-esque cargo flexibility.

So that narrowed it down out of the entire car universe to the Opel Insignia, VW Arteon, and Audi A7.

The Opel Insignia is nice enough overall, and offers some serious value for the $.
Unfortunately, the Buick badge engineering for the Regal Sportback is a serious drawback, given Buick in general, Buick's lack of interest in this certainly to-be-discontinued-soon poorly selling model (a legacy from the separation agreement when GM sold its longstanding German division to Peugeot), and the sad condition of the closest dealer to me for warranty service.

By contrast, the Arteon is far from perfect, and VW does give me that "gotcha!" feeling for bundling options I want into the priciest trim line along with options I don't want.
But to address those imperfections, the A7 would cost almost exactly 2x the $ when comparably equipped, which just seems excessive for my automotive discernment.
And rolling up to a backcountry trailhead or my daughter's school in a vehicle that pricey (unless it's a monster SUV) would stand out in the kind of way I don't want to stand out (as opposed to wearing some form of lycra almost every time I visit her school, and skinning up in the backcountry wearing lycra tights with a fake jeans print, yeah!).
