Could it be another new bike thread?

Well, the boss has green lighted a new mountain bike in the spring if I’m a good boy and follow the rules after my neck surgery. I’m intrigued by the steep seat post slack head tube bikes. What I really want is a 23 pound 140mm travel 29er trail bike. Closest I can find (that’s not a gazillion $) is the Intense sniper trail but it’s just 120mm.

I’d love the thoughts of the collective....

It's not gonna be 23lbs, but a ripmo is probably one of the lighter 140-ish mm 29ers that has modern geo.

23 pounds?! I guess if you just don't use a front wheel, might be able to do it.

Intense Primer would be the next step up from the Sniper. Higher end models will probably get you close to 23lb and it's 140/130. The geo is considered outdated by many though.

Pretty much everyone has hopped on to the modern geo train to some extent and pretty much everyone makes a 130mm or 140mm 29er. Just figure out which one you like.

    23lb is really light for a 140/140 29er though...
    It sucks to suck.

Yeah the Pivot 4xx series, the blur, the sb100/130 you can get down fairly light but they will in fact cost a million dollars

The new YT Jeffsy might be worth a look, particularly given the price.

I think a lot of weight can be saved in different places. I’m light and don’t ride the park and chunder in point and shoot so....

Lighter tires and wheels than come stock on “trail bikes” then shit like seats...I think I can get to 24.....

    Maybe I’m a dumbass

Well dang! no one's ever thunked of that stuff before!

You could probably do it in the 25ish range. But then you'll just break it.

Weight, David, is a feminist issue.

And yes, you are a dumbass. No way you get a functional bike meeting your requirements at 23lbs.

    And why?

Just get the bike that works for the trails you want to ride, and the weight will be in line with what's appropriate for that type of bike.

It's more fun climbing on an efficient bike. And those don't have to be super light.

I have an sb100, full ‘19 XTR, full carbon everything, carbon wheels, etc, and it weighs 27 pounds.
    But I run real tires.

That mondraker xc bike might be close to that weight, only a half mil too!!

Not sure on the weight but the new norco xc full sus is ultra light and is ahead of the game for geo on an xc bike. A real looker

I rode the Pivot Mach 4 sl today. It had a 120mm fork on it with a 67.5 HA. That bike was super fun and fast on the xc trails I took it down today.

This is just, like, my opinion, man, but if you want a light(ish) snappy 29er, there are lots of great options in the 120-130 rear travel range.

Ripley V4 with a bunch of light parts? Carbon wheels, rigid seatpost (save a lb vs dropper, if weight is that important), XO1, Fox stepcast fork?

    Gonna be expensive.

Deals on the new Ripley? You’ll be lucky if you can even get one by winter. Lead times on some of the size/color combinations are already pushing into next year.
