    Artist produced albums

Just listening to two great new albums, the Raconteurs Help Us Stranger and the Black Keys Let's Rock (takes balls to use that title), and both are superbly produced and recorded by the artists. Maybe it's the water in Nashville, where both were made, but you have to hand it to Jack White and Dan Auerbach. How many other great examples of self production are out there? Brian Wilson was a master back in the Pet Sounds era, and one only wonders what Hendrix would have created out of Electric Ladyland.

    Thats an easy one
Boston's first album went straight to production, as it was already finished when the record company got it
Tom Scholz is a bad dude Just about everything on that album other than singing, is himself recorded in his own basement
He actually made the album with some friends, and then had to make a band after the album blew up.
There is more to it then that, but it sums it up.One of the best albums ever made
He was not only the producer, he was the BAND

NYC based rap duo's second album is arguably their best (imho). Totally produced by DJ Premier and Guru during a time when only a few rap groups actually produced their own material. No guests, no outside producers, just Primo and Guru flexing immaculate.
This is also one of my favorite albums of all time, regardless of genre.

All of their albuma following this were produced by Premier and Guru, as well (their debut album, while mostly produced by Primo and Guru, did include tracks by DJ Mark the 45 King).

The notorious Compton rap crew's second and final studio album was entirely produced by Dr. Dre, DJ Yella, and Eazy E.

And while the group's lyrical content may have suffered a bit after the departure of Ice Cube, this might arguably be some of Dre and Yella's best production, ranging from funky jams to turgid, almost metal intensity; the entire album is a tighly knit sonic boom from start to finish
