    RIP RIP TORN

Necessary? Is it necessary for me to drink my own urine?
No. But I do it anyway because it's sterile and I like the taste.

    RIP Rip.

Loved him as an actor. Every roll he was in was memorable.
Back when I was in high school he had a lead roll in a movie filmed here in the NEK. He crushed the roll. I will occasionally still hear stories about Rip's off camera shenanigans from people who worked on the film.

He was great on the Larry Sanders Show. Main reason to watch that.

    RIP RIP TORN

From the first Alec Baldwin appearance on Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee (couldn’t find a clip)...

Rip Torn did a part inBee Movie with me.
    I love that guy.
He's doing the show and I go, "Where do you live?" He goes, "I live up there in Salisbury.
" I said, "What's it like up where you live?" He said to me: "Some of the people up there are a little strange.
One time I was in a bar up there and these two guys are at the bar, and they gave me the eye.
And I knew something was gonna go down.
" I'm sitting there going, "What? What happened?" He goes, "I started to go out the door and go to the car the one guy makes a move on me, so I crack him in the jaw.
The other guy smashes me with a bottle in the face.
I kick the other guy in the balls.
    I stick a fork in " He's describing this Peckinpah-esque melee.
My mouth is on the floor.
I go, "When did this happen?" He went, "Last summer.
    " You know, he's like 74.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

    RIP RIP TORN

Really phenomenal actor w crazy range. Hard to beat his straight crazy deliveries in comedies, but his dramatic roles were full on too. Don Geiss was one of my favorite 30Rock Characters too in addition to Artie

I always figured it was a stage name but no- turns out that was his real name and he refused to change it when urged to by an agent early in his career. Thank God!

    ?

His real name was Elmore Raul Torn, Jr.
    "Rip" was a family nickname.

Reading his bio, dude was crazy.
Broke into a bank with a gun while intoxicated and avoided serious jail time.
Beat up Norman Mailer while shooting a film.
Sued Dennis Hopper and won, twice, because Hopper counter-sued and lost.

that Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee episode with Alec Baldwin is worth watching (the one quoted above where Baldwin is telling the story about Rip getting in a bar fight)
