When did you "throw in the towel"?
I'm in my mid-30s. I live in a great place. Too great of a place. Job market is bad. Everyone wants to live here/move here. Classic blowing up mountain/near mountain town scenario. Either gotta tele-commute or show up with a pile and open a business. I am really only qualified to own a fairly niche/capital intensive business. I pigeon holed myself and sending out my resume many many times has left me with my thumb up my ass. I don't have any access to capital to start any businesses, so my options are: Move to a real city and get a normal persons job and embrace the weekend warrior/windshield time, or go back to school with every other person in my situation....hoping things change in a few years and new credentials will open up some new doors.
Plan B: Sell everything (besides bikes and skis) and live in a van down by the river.

Plan B is working for me. And I live in a great place.
A few people feel the rain. Most people just get wet.

If he was to consider owning a business, the industry he knows would require a large capital investment to get involved.
Is the way I read it.

If you stick around you'll learn that there's a range here. Some people have stuck it out. Some people split. Some people made their money and then went. Some people are happy visiting the goods. etc. etc.
In other words, it's an individual thing and you're gonna have to find your way. But if you have specific questions there's probably somebody here who has done that and can at least try to answer your question.
And if you have anything funny to say we'd be all ears.

^ this.
Whereabouts would be a start.. then telling us what you actually want in mountain town heaven.. a living?.. your already meteoric career progression (while there?) to continue?
Then there are numerous threads about great skiing/biking near big cities you could look at.
I thought we were all teeth here?

Sorry for being intentionally vague. Longtime poster using a stupid alias. Just curious as to what everyone's personal "cut off" point was for bailing on the dream and moving back to reality or when/how they actually made something happen so they could live in a cool place AND not be a bum while doing it.
