Didn't he post pics of his room in his parents' house one time? Looked like a 12-year-old's room if I recall.

I wasn't going to say anything, but since you started in I'll go:

Come on man, pick a style. Your shorts are too long for a casual "yachtie" like your shoes, your belt is all fucking wrong as Ice points out, and not just because it clashes - its too formal for your targeted look, you don't tuck in all the way around if you're wearing a button down with shorts, just by the buckle, which taking it back a step should be paired with driving mocs or loafers or at the very least, nice, simple, leather flops (not the mandals that some jamokes around here probably sport with white socks), your watch is gauche but it goes with the diamond earring which all comes back to it clashing with the attempted yachtie style.

Get it the fuck together kid.

Yeah I just went for the low-hanging fruit.

Bmills, I doubt you've ever heard of him but the best columnist, ever, in the history of the Boston Globe, was George Frazier. He also wrote a lot for Esquire. Super interesting cat in many ways including the fact that he wrote like an angel And, he was also way into clothes and style. Not fashion at all. Here is one piece of his, among many, on mens' clothes and the idea of style. It is a classic. I hope you enjoy it. http://www.ivy-style.com/george-fraz...thes-1960.html

edit: my bad for believing DD, I thought we were friends. My bad.

@BMills: Let me know if you dig it please. I haven't had a chance to turn somebody on to him for many years but I do believe you might be a guy who can get it.

Just finished. Completely enjoyable. History, tried and true fashion and all its offshoots tied into one. Thank you for that.

Bibles of truth in there and among my favorites (although I never knew who to attribute them to before) are:

"Studied carelessness" The Italians have a word for this and the Journal had a wonderful piece on it in the Weekend Edition a few years ago: Sprezzatura.

"they turn up at beatified bars like the ones in the St. Regis in New York" - they still do. Elsewhere too.

“No woman,” says author Finis Farr, “really knows anything about men’s clothes. How could she? After all, she’s conditioned to obsolescence, to the principle that things go out of fashion. Well-dressed men know that nothing worth-while is ever outmoded, that a superb tailor’s work is ageless.”

"such abominations as large tie knots "

Good stuff, thanks again. It's true, mens' fashion is timeless for the most part, not that its bad to step out anytime either, just that what works, works.

For those wondering at home, my current favorite is Sid Mashburn out of Atlanta.

He wrote about a lot of other stuff, he was probably The Expert on Jazz in the '50's and early 60's, for instance, and for many years he and Billie Holliday were a couple (Billie Holliday, if you know that name you know that's some real shit) as a white Harvard-educated slacker. (He was). He was awesome on politics, entitlement and society in general. Crazy cool guy. Drank too much. Drove everyone crazy. But when he turned in the column they would just fuckin print it.

Whatever, I'm glad you liked it.
