Yukon skiing family in California: gear help
Hi everyone, I haven’t posted in some time, blame it on life.
I’ve been to Mammoth for almost one week. I crossed paths with a ski friend from Quebec now living in the Yukon. We skied together with his wife and two daughters 9 & 4. The kids have been ripping since Saturday. Yesterday was their last day at Mammoth before heading into Yosemite. They have planned, as a family, one more ski day at Squaw on Friday.
At the end of the day, the 4 year-old broke her ski while getting on chair 23.
Questions for California/Nevada maggots. He’s looking for a temporary/cheap ski for a 4 year old. I presume she was going to change skis for next season as kids grow fast at that age.
Any suggestions where to find a free, cheap or inexpensive toddler’s ski? He has the bindings of the broken skis.
They are currently in Yosemite with little phone/wifi access. So if anyone know a great place to find a ski in late June, it would be greatly appreciated.
The broken ski is 92cm long.

If Squaw is still open, do they not rent skis there?

Are they going to have 92cm skis??? Buying/finding a used pair would probably be cheaper.

ExtremeSkiToddler (as I call their 4 yr old - her dad old alias on the Quebec ski forum Zoneski used to be extremeskiboy. Anyway, in the last few days she skied Cornice, Scotty’s, Dave’s and Climax. Her big sister (9) skied the above plus Monuments, Paranoid 2, Drop Out 1 & 2, Wipe Out and Hangman. These Yukon skiers can handle the steeps.

I’m in town until after skiing tomorrow. He is in Yosemite and will be around Tahoe/Squaw Thursday.
Yes, the ski is a 92. I thought it was odd also.

Dear Mr. PatSki,
Good on you for looking out for some skiers in need.
Just checked the “outgrew but still in the rack” inventory, but the smallest we have is a 120cm pair of Roxy skis. Your buddy is welcome to them, they’re in Truckee, have bindings, and I *think* they have been used for boots in range 20.5-22, but not positive. LMK if these would work, and we can arrange a pick up/drop off.
Otherwise, Tahoe Sports Hub in Truckee has a lot of consignment gear upstairs at mainly reasonable prices -> i’d think they could find something usable there.
I hope she gets back on skis tomorrow! Actually, Dunno how she did that to her ski before her 4-yo leg, so maybe she can just borrow my Bodaciouses? Only the 186s, so likely too small?
Cheers,
Paul

Drop into cast offs, the thrift store in town, often tons of kids stuff that has been out grown. Also check places like ski renter to see if they are getting rid of last seasons gear. I bought kids skis there in the past since they grow out of stuff so quickly.
I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...iscariot

Yukon skiing family in California: gear help
Thanks for all the responses. The fact that the family has been on camping mode and moving around, they decided to rent a pair for $10 or $15, not sure.
We skied together in Squaw, after skiing they went to the pool at High Camp. After a Mexican meal in Truckee, we said our goodbyes as they were heading for Lassen tomorrow. Dad and maybe 9 yr old might ski Lassen followed by SF and flight back to Whitehorse.
I’ll be back at Squaw tomorrow ans Sunday then one final ski day at Mammoth on July 1 before heading back to LA then flight home on Wednesday.
Phone pictures and videos have been posted on my Instagram account. @madpatski yes, it’s the lazy what of going TRs.

be aware that binding is on proprietary rail so if they have a good Dynastar or Rossi dealer at home they can order just the ski (and probably the next length up too for growth planning)
what's orange and looks good on hippies?
fire
rails are for trains
