My youngest finally got to participate in the annual backpacking trip with my father-in-law and I. She turned 4 exactly 1 month before this photo was taken. I'm pretty stoked that she managed the 2.5 miles with 1200' of elevation gain like a champ.

Wanted to revive this thread. With state and national parks opening only on limited access basis, I think that this will be the summer of primitive camping. This is a blessing. Time to discover the rural mountain and desert west. Targhee NF, Great Basin, Glen Canyon, The Staircase.
Take pics., and post them here

Also, I am looking on beta for Lee's Ferry camping. Thinking of going before the end of May

Went a couple of weeks ago to a spot we had never seen anyone else. There were 5 other groups.

Everyone else is going to have the same plan, so go early.

+1. Had a great weekend camping in the Highwood Mountains, an island range in central Montana. Beautiful country if you can co-exist with a few motos. Can't wait to get back here with my mountain bike--there are some great loop trails that look awesome for biking. Really nice peaceful campground at Thain Creek with sites open on Memorial Day weekend, can't beat that. Harder to get the teenagers out camping these days but they always have fun and are great hikers.

This pic needs to be expanded, so that we can see the 12 gauge resting on the rack behind her head.

First camping trip of the year, usually much earlier than this. Took a jaunt over to the Gorge with my two boys.

Other people on the way weren’t so fortunate.

Got settled in on a nice beach camping spot, decided against the full on siege style camping and left the 5th wheel at home, tents it was.

Up on the Ruedi Res this past weekend. Fly fishing on the Frying Pan is fucking great. Cottonwoods made it look like it was snowing in July.
