If we want to be all stereotypical, I'd argue that us Gen Xers are about the worst. We love to blame the boomers but really are situation was no more fucked up, perhaps less, that those that came before us. But yet, hear we are, pushing 50, turning into everything we don't like about our parents generation, and throwing the next gen under the bus before they have chance to make a difference.

Do they have these generational issues in Mexico, or are they all just equally fucked?

Not sure about that, but they did legalize weed nationwide so they’ve got that going for them...which is nice.

    Awesome AK!!!

Somebody smarter that me should be starting some type of generational music, self-identification, who are we thread.

For the record, born in 1973 as a outcast white kid straight outta the suburbs I identify with music like Suicidal Tendencies, Pink Floyd, Social D, Pixies, Dinosaur Jr. etc.

I don't think music is anywhere near as unifying as it could be in the past, probably mainly because of the internet having everythkng and nobody listening to radio like they used to. I agree we need it but how do we get it? I have no clue on that one.

Oh, I know. It was a dig at the retired guys I see here in the pnw who drive the biggest shiniest domestic pickups. They all seem to love chrome, whereas younger guys hate it.

Yeah, but at least you are good at the internet. I think music is different things to different people. For me, some music I like but it does not illicit any emotions. Bands and song that I will enjoy for the rest of my life and the ones that make me feel a certain way, remember certain times and events. It is probably because I'm not really right in the head.

A good example would be Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Both are seminal acts of the 90s in the wheel house of what I "should" like. I think Pearl Jam's music is great and I've heard "10" about a million times but I have no emotional attachment. Nirvana I could take it or leave it.

Mrs Jong said the same thing recently. Too many choices is definitely an obstacle, but even back in the late 60s the majority of popular artists pretty much ALL kicked out protest songs with similar messages. If today's artists showed similar unity and dedication to common causes their messages would be a lot more effective.. like they were at shutting down Vietnam.
