Point being, language evolves with generations, to each there is new slang developed that continues to evolve in meaning given context.

With communication via TV, movie and da innert00bs, language is more viral whereas before it was colloquial, endemic.

The distribution of the various forms of Romansch across Switzerland, Italy and Austria is pretty interesting.

This is the wrong thread I know but white people calling other white people "homie" is annoying; white people calling black people "homie" is something else altogether.

I find accents interesting. With tv, youtube, instagram, etc you'd think they'd be homogenizing into a kind of gen-am, but the opposite seems to be true.

People out here in the sticks, despite being something other than formal and proper, appreciate respect from strangers. "Excuse me Sir/Maam/Miss" is the appropriate way to get the attention of a stranger. We also exchange pleasantries, introduce ourselves, and shake hands.

People not from these parts find it a bit uncomfortable. On the jobsite, it is expected that anyone that doesn't know each goes through this process. If you don't, you are considered an instant outsider. It is one of the weird things around here that makes some people from the city think we are unfriendly. Guess what...get out a bit and you will realize that it is pretty much standard in the rest of the world.

Colorado is the only place where you can introduce yourself to an adult, women included, and they can just give you that Whazup Headnod that says, "Yeah, I heard you but I'm so self absorbed that you ain't shit to me". It is my number one read on potential customers.
Yesterday I went into a pizza place and got a couple slices. On my way out, into a crowded street, I heard someone in the distance yell, "Yo! Boss!".

I didn't flinch or turn around. I sat down on a bench outside and a guy approached me returning a shirt that had fallen off my pack.

I was extremely grateful, but questioned his linguistic tactics in my mind.

What's missing in the "hey buddy, dude or bitch", is body language. You can be the most polite obsequious so and so, but if your body language says fuck you, so do the words.

eh, southerners are good at telling you to 'go fuck yourself' without swearing and with a smile on their face.

A job that took a week to learn means you only had a week or two of job security at best, Benny.
