JA looked Pissed - but really this was the best he could have hoped for.

He wasn't catching Brunel all that fast on the down - a couple seconds here and there - but not making huge gains.

He was catching GT - but if he didn't catch him completely he would have been in the flats by himself for a good long time before the climb and you know GT wasn't going to work until the climb with two LJ guys in his group. He also burned a few matches all by himself on the flatter sections of the previous climb.

As much as I would have liked to see "anyone but Ineos" - Brunel has been the best, he should win, unless Ineos tells him not to that is. I can see their sponsors preferring GT - so who knows.

I think we need a jersey to honor the most annoying fucking commercial that NBCSN runs every 5 minutes.

My money's on the one with the little brat and the pens.

I think they should have gone for it. Gravel bikes are so hot right now.

So on Fantasy we may only get jersey point and no stage points?
Only KOM points were awarded for the stage - no points for finish position

    Still shaking my head.
Team tactics knocked into a cocked hat and one slim chance to change the outcome. Could get edgey.

Shitty end to a great race with so many potential challengers.. nice change from the Sky Train years. Too bad they couldn't have set a finish at the bottom of the decent before the ice.. guess the tech just isn't up to it for timing?

No, it was just a logistical decision to not have an interim timer in that location...more likely because there isn’t a DH jersey (good idea? The denim jersey??)

But, yes, unfortunate...might have had JA showing some downhill heroism today

I’m satisfied with it. They were right to pull the pin on it before anyone got hurt.

I think they did the right thing. If they couldn't make it all the way then just stop. The further they went the riskier it got and running around trying to set up some half-assed finish would have probably just made things worse.

Do we know how far from the leaders the ice was? I got the sense it was quite a bit down the road. I agree it should have been cut, just not psyched about calling times at the top before the race actually ended

Rider safety first, can't argue with that.

What blows me away though is how these guys continued down a descent that would have had my sphincters clenched tighter than a vise until I hit the flats and they're coasting along with no hands, putting on jackets, chatting with the team cars, etc like they were cruising on an airport runway.

Just watched the video of the landslide on the PT Tour show...the decision to stop the race when they did was the right one, period. That shit was scary.

Man that's rough for Alaphillipe. Bernal probably had the stage but JA was already at the chase group when they called it, and they definitely would have take some time back. But that's bike racing. Your hopes and dreams will be shattered at least 99% of the time.

Not with another Cat 1 climb at the end. Alaphilippe was cooked. He got a break when they called it.

No worries, easy to forget given all the confusion.

On their podcast Armstrong/Hincapie were speculating he could have lost up to 5 minutes had it gone to the end.

Today’s stage has been shortened too. They are going to “Just” ride the final 60 km HC climb.
