    We’re all just bumbling through, trying to make some sense of this infinite indivisible reality, yet limited to a peephole of subjectivity and the instincts of an ape. I don’t go for any of that religious dogma, as I prefer more a little more subtlety and paradox in the lies I tell myself.

    We had a confirmed spirit living in our fist house. We called him Old Bill. Died from TB quarantined to the shed in the back yard of the house. He never left completely I guess. The American Indian mover we had said he felt a good spirit lived in the house. That was after the kids told us about seeing him and asked who he was. The kids who lived there next spoke of seeing him the the school psychologist. My wife read the reports.

    I'm with you. I'm going to live my life and do my best to respect mother earth and all creatures that live upon her. Endeavor to be enlightened and consider the impact my actions have on the world around me.

    Personally, I believe that when you die it's lights out, end of story, and I'm okay with that. However, if when I die it ends up there is a deity and I find myself at the pearly gates it's going to go one of two ways. Either he/she/it will be magnanimous and applaud my free thinking (with which I was endowed) or he/she/it will be vengeful and what I did in life will make no difference.

    <shrug>

    Until then I'm going to keep bumbling along.
    When you see something that is not right, not just, not fair, you have a moral obligation to say something. To do something." Rep. John Lewis

    Hitchens was abused growing up and then lost his mom to the church (pact suicide). that kind of shit will color ones whole life and Hitchins buried his demons in booze, nicotine and anger.

    Asking him to review anything supported by the church nets a similar result.

    Does anyone here feel that placebos are never effective and a waste of time and money? Asking for a friend.

    If it works to make you better, it's working. My MIL was a STRONG believer. Personal miracles after praying to the saints and the whole 9 yards. 97 years old, left a card game to go to the hospital and died 2 days later. In death, all of the wrinkles in her face disappeared and her face looked like she was 30. Guess it worked for her.
