tgapp, you don't need to feel bad for serving a mission regardless of where you are with the church. You were doing what you felt was right at that time in your life. While I'm still active LDS and obviously feel differently about the church, I have plenty of family and friends who have left and that doesn't impact how I feel about them or treat them. Drives me nuts when I see LDS "disown" or distance themselves when someone leaves. You've always impressed me with how you are looking out for others on this board. You may not like BYU as an institution anymore, but it definitely won't hurt you on your resume as it's a well respected school. Definitely still opens doors for me professionally. I can see the conundrum for you, though, with your position on the church.

And buttah's take is idiotic. Bag on Joseph Smith and the intelligence of me and other church members (trust me, I know you all will), but beastiality? I guess he gets points for originality.

Sometimes, I'm glad of awful experiences, especially the ones for which I had a great deal of responsibility.
I learned in ways from them that benefits me which in turn can benefit the world.

One thing though is that guilt is completely wasteful energy. Acknowledge the idiocy, but don't dwell on it, move on.

So be happy at whatever level of misjudgment or stupidity and leverage that to make a better world.

I know a few folks who are able to toss most of the OT in the trash and only focus on what most NT versions agree Jesus actually said.. Fuck Paul's NT 1st Corinthians ranting as well. Jimmy Carter's a good example of a devout human who never uses religion as a tool to put other people down or claim some kind of superiority over others..

I guess I just think it's pretty rich how so many "christians" get all up in arms over a bunch of shit Christ never actually said Himself.

How about this chick? Would ya??

I’m not saying Christianity correlates with stupidity, but...

I've driven by Hill Cumorah hundreds of times in my life. Dreamed of poaching it on my 3 pins but the timing was never right.

Step 1: respect each other’s beliefs.

    2. Your god says do not judge others.

    3. Your parents brainwashed you to believe in a sky fairy to control you. There is no evidence to support the existence of god. Smart people understand this.

Ha. Hates judgmental Mormons and then posts something super judgmental.

And yeah, just because you grew up with Catholics and didn’t have “issue,” doesn’t make them less evil than the Mo’s. Read the news lately?

Catholics were called out for banning gay couple families from their shelters. Add in the child molesters cover up. Tons of political lobbying against choice, Amy COVID Barrett.. etc..

And the argument about there being no proof.. That's how faith works. If you have to have proof the faith component isn't there. That kind of faith is crucial to spirituality. If there was/is an all powerful creator god over everything they wouldn't create/leave any irrefutable proof that they exist if they wanted that spiritual component the holy books discuss. It's no longer a "god" if everything is explained by science..

My favorite line from The Devil's Advocate was, "Guilt is like carrying around a bag of bricks, all you've got to do is set it down." Spoken by Al Pacino as the Devil.
