Advice for selling pottery?
My aunt and uncle are closing up the studio they've had for years, I helped move some things for them and we were talking about what to do with all the pieces they still have. They have a shop they worked with for some pieces but they only move so many pieces/year. I know nothing about selling this stuff but I figured someone on here might have advice. Sell it online? Bother taking pictures of each piece before moving them into storage? Don't bother at all? This was an abstract question we could kick down the road until recently, but their situation has changed and we're going to need to do something.
A few examples

There's a whole circuit of craft festivals, these ones started by us and have gotten hudge: https://sugarloafcrafts.com I'm sure there's some by them where they could move some pot. Er, pottery.

Looks kind of artsy.
First question is how much do you/they want/need to make? Do they want it "gone" or do they want to maximize the gross?
Second question is how hard do you/they want to work?
The two questions are connected.
I sold dozens cases of coffee mugs in a week going from gas station to flower shop to bodega once. But it was a 9-11 "United We Stand" mug the week after 9-11.
OTOH, my kid taught pottery classes while in college and sold what he made at art festivals during the summer. Lot's of hours. 100% profit sorta.A few people feel the rain. Most people just get wet.

Thanks for the suggestions, this was just something that came up and I haven't started looking into anything in detail

Yeah, I bought a yacht with all the money I made. I was spreading joy and unity that put smiles on peoples faces. Shoot me. I wasn't selling life saving drugs to only those who can afford them. Just kidding about the shoot me. FWIW, I sold a lot f cases to VFW posts for the cost to ship.
Anyway, selling online is a job IME. A lot of steps from start to finish to sell one piece. My brother sells triathlon gear online and at triathlon meets. He likes the meets better. Maybe it's the babe watching.
If you are talking about a 100+ pieces, another path might be to take a pictures of what you have and a few examples and sell them in assorted dozens at wholesale prices.
Edit. I meant to add that with samples and pictures your market would be gift shops and festival vendors.Last edited by wooley12; 06-09-2019 at 02:37 PM.

I would suggest selling without having to ship unless the pieces can command a high price to collectors then it might be worth the hassle of packing/insuring/shipping.

A friend of ours is a pretty accomplished ceramic artist. She shows her stuff in several galleries across the west but also moves a lot of her work via a website my wife built for her.
See https://offthewalzstudioart.com/shop?olsPage=products.
Hardest part is taking photos of everything and deciding prices.

Take a slough of sonar pictures, colorate as kinetically possible and have shows in NYC art galleries. Static as well as dynamic.
