Bailed on summer snow skiing 'cause the sand patches are prime these days. An homage to the gone but not forgotten Prince George Sandblast summer sand ski race in Prince George, B.C. River cutbanks are a summer sand skier's best friend.

What if the hokey pokey really is what it's all about?

If you are in the North Lake Tahoe area (and a wee bit of the West Lake Tahoe area) and are searching for July turns:

    1. 2nd gate at Blackwood Canyon is still closed (the one by the river); was told by some mtn bikers that the road is pretty clear of snow, but the Ellis Peak Trail is still covered in snow.

    2. Gate at Castle Peak is open; Basin Peak is still pretty much top-to-bottom and there's a nice swatch of snow between the outer rim of Coon Canyon and Frog Lake Cliffs.

    3. Mt. Lola and the surrounding area is holding nicely (North facing aspect of Lola, ridge above Perazzo Cliffs on the PCT, White Rock Lake area, Webber Peak, etc.)

If any of you summer skiing die hards headed out to Mt Lola want to help us with a shuttle to Meadow Lake by driving a vehicle back to Truckee, we'll make it worth your while.

    Blackwood Canyon, August 8, 2019
Since they finally opened the gate on the road, we decided to explore Blackwood Canyon. We skied 11 runs, honoring Nigel Tufnel, on 5 different snow patches.

Zooey is so excited that she is levitating when she sees Dookey67 on our first run of the day

Highland Lakes, Folger Peak, Hiram Peak, August 10, 2019

We skied below the peaks on both sides of Highland Lakes. We started on the lower backside of Folger Peak and finished off the day on the lower frontside of Hiram Peak.

Dookey67 skiing the backside of Folger Peak. Hiram Peak can be seen in the background.
