Bailed on summer snow skiing 'cause the sand patches are prime these days. An homage to the gone but not forgotten Prince George Sandblast summer sand ski race in Prince George, B.C. River cutbanks are a summer sand skier's best friend.
Master of mediocrity.

If you are in the North Lake Tahoe area (and a wee bit of the West Lake Tahoe area) and are searching for July turns:
1. 2nd gate at Blackwood Canyon is still closed (the one by the river); was told by some mtn bikers that the road is pretty clear of snow, but the Ellis Peak Trail is still covered in snow.
2. Gate at Castle Peak is open; Basin Peak is still pretty much top-to-bottom and there's a nice swatch of snow between the outer rim of Coon Canyon and Frog Lake Cliffs.
3. Mt. Lola and the surrounding area is holding nicely (North facing aspect of Lola, ridge above Perazzo Cliffs on the PCT, White Rock Lake area, Webber Peak, etc.)

Blackwood Canyon, August 8, 2019
Since they finally opened the gate on the road, we decided to explore Blackwood Canyon. We skied 11 runs, honoring Nigel Tufnel, on 5 different snow patches.
