What's hot in DC right now?
Might do a day trip. Any good art shows in the museums or something else?

I mean it's DC, there's all kinds of little events and shit, and spring is big time for it. There's lots of stuff at the various Smithsonian venues: https://www.si.edu/exhibitions
But I just saw that next weekend is Capital Pride Weekend, so don't miss that.

(Apparently it's the David Koch Hall of Dinosaurs and they talk a lot about global warming.)

My son works on the hill, so I go quite a bit. I get up early, grab a Capital Bike share and knock out all the monuments in a couple of hours.
Then the wife and I will hit the museums. Some of the cafeterias have really upped their food. Try the Native or Africa American.
The restaurant scene in DC is over the top and expensive.

The hottest ticket in DC is to not be in DC.
They mostly go other places and act like SIAs.watch out for snakes

I accidentally moved to DC from AK.
So I do a search on TGR for DC and now I find out I live near Benny as well... Double whammy.
That said the museums are free and now that summer is over you don't melt to death.

Career, family closeness, wrong bus, got drunk, etc, etc.
It's all the same at this point. Especially when trying to answer, "so where are we skiing this year dad?"

First visit ever just do memorials and museums, they're free and you should probably see them once. Natural History, Air and Space and the National Gallery would be plenty for museums for one trip. Lincoln, Jefferson and Vietnam or FDR would work for memorials. Parking's always rough down there, take Metro.

Christmas on the Potomac @ Gaylord Hotel National Harbor is a pretty great family event. Highly recommend checking out ICE. Went a couple years in a row with my 5/6 year old niece and nephew, and my wife and I actually went solo once or twice because it really is pretty amazing... room after room of massive ice sculptures (and a massive ice slide) with a different theme each year - looks like this year is How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Buy and print tickets in advance if possible because the ticket booth lines get pretty long...
