Zero turn mowers
Ok so didn't know if this is tech talk or padded, but padded clearly gets more traffic so ..
Got a house with 1.8 acres. I'd say 80% is grass so riding mower needed. My head hurts from searching so need collectives help.
Budget as high as say $4k. Want reliable, zero turn, 54" cut path or more.
I'm sure someone here has done the research, learned the lessons. This will be my first Rider and I have more or less zero mechanical skills.
Help.

Is your land fairly level or bumpy? If it's bumpy a flexible deck will be your friend.

A an owner of a deere Z535m on season 4 with 0 troubles, I'm partial to John Deere for residential. However, I based my purchase on the fact that there is a full line dealer 4 miles from my house so i can purchase filters, oil etc. The reality is they are all good when you are talking 4k. Some like toro, some like deere, etc. The dealer experience is more important. So if you can avoid Home Depot or Lowes and use a commercial lawn care store close by, stick with the brands they carry. Service and parts are going to be more important after the shine is worn off.
Also, you are buying now during peak season. Dead of winter can yield good bang for the buck if you can hold out. If not, 4k may be on the lowish end of 54" mowers. 5k is probably more likely all in,

Exmark. I’ll second the Kawasaki motor. But dealer proximity is definitely the biggest factor.
If you have a bumpy yard, the suspension seat is well worth the upgrade, if it’s not stock.
Good earbuds that fit comfortably inside your hearing protection.
Avoid Husqavarna like the plague.

If it's a zero turn mower, your lawn must look like a parking strip.

Why not Honda motors? I swear by them for push mowers

my picks would be kohler and honda
the new briggs vanguards are now "chonda's", look-a-like honda's made in china
i had to do a warranty in 2016 on a briggs gen set, brand new chinese design engine, there was literally no tech info out on it. factory tech support couldn't even answer the most basic questions on specs

Love my Scag Freedom Z. Only complaint is it’s hard to crush PBR pounders when you have to steer with two hands.

I run an exmark once a week for extra cash, nice machine, takes a beating and easy to maintain. Most of the commercial ops seem to be running them around here.

I had a toro once with a tecumsah. that was the best lawnmorer I ever had. it gave out after 8 years (I pushmow an acre). So I got the excact same Toro model (well I guess the model number changed in the 8 years) but visually identical (hi wheel push / self propelled) this time with a Kohler.
THE KOHLER WAS A PIECE OF SHIT!!!!!
God damn thing would shut down, not start, I'd take it to a dealer, dealier would bitch about ethanol fuck that, i was using the additive. Did this three times with the dealer service, total piece of shit. I filed a compaint with toro but they wouldn't do shit and that the last toro I'll ever own.
After a year of that got me a Troybuilt with a B&S from the blue guys and in the next 5 years have had NO problems. Wasted $ on the five year extended warranty but that's fine.
FUCK KOHLER.
OK. feel better. carryon."Can't you see..."
