Come on now, he asked you very nicely not to talk about him when he was gone. I believe we should honor his wishes.....

Saw him in 1976 I think. Subtle low key retro-retro music, dry humor. Great harmonica work. 100 seat theater. One of the best intimate concerts of my life. RIP

Hadn't heard him. Bit of a shame. He had some smooth chops

Last time I heard him was at a lift station at Moonlight Basin. It was the short double that locals used to park at. An old hippie was playing him loud for most of the day out of his room box.it was cool.

He went to HS with Zappa. Kookie back story. His mellow was good to mix into the LP stack with the Byrds, Beatles and Moody Blues back in the bellbottom and Whole Earth Catalog days.

I have vague memories of him on SNL when I was a kid. Seemed comfortable just doing his thing. Cool cat.
Know of a pair of Fischer Ranger 107Ti 189s (new or used) for sale? PM me.

That was Captain Beefheart. There were also rumors that LR was FZ.
But:
Redbone was reticent about his origins, and never explained the provenance of his stage name.[2] According to a Toronto Star report in the 1980s, he was once known as Dickran Gobalian, and he came to Canada from Cyprus in the mid-1960s and changed his name via the Ontario Change of Name Act.[6] Biographical research published in 2019 corroborated his birth name, and stated that his family was of Armenian origin. His parents lived in Jerusalem, but moved in 1948 to Nicosia, Cyprus, where Redbone was born. By 1961, the family had moved to London, United Kingdom, and by 1965 to Toronto.[

Me too!
I recall him being the musical guest and Joel (MST3K) Hodgson being the comedic guest. Both of them slayed it...Redbone with his laidback, almost deadpan singing/playing and Hodgson with his deadpan comedic wit. One of my fondest memories of OG SNL...
Over the years I keep threatening to purchase some Redbone albums, but have yet to do so.
I do recall that his debut album featured Michigan J. Frog as the album art, though, which was mad cool.
What a week, though:

OOPS!
Y'all are right, Moore died in 2017...not sure how I got mixed up with dates (his death popped up on one of my feeds recently...must've been on the anniversary of his death and I just misread it).
Sorry all.

A couple years ago it was Leon Russell. Now Leon Redbone.
If I was a musician and my name was Leon last initial R, I might be worried.
Leon Redbone was good, interesting, an individual. An iconoclast. A talent. Great, in short. RIP.
But Leon Russell was pretty damn awesome.
