Open Summit
Anyone use this thing yet, or know how they are generating the forecasts from the tops of 13,000 foot mountains??

Could be useful for backcountry objectives in particular.sproing!

I'm pretty sure they're just collecting NOAA point forecasts and putting it in a pretty format.
That's all they're doing with Open Snow these days.

I don't know about Tahoe. In Colorado, Joel still writes the "daily snow" posts for Colorado and for the resorts that bribe him to write daily snows specifically for them, but I'm fairly sure the predicted snowfall numbers for all the resorts are automatically generated, I believe from NOAA. This was a relatively recent change and I can't find his post right now where he outlined this. IIRC, they still massage the numbers if they think they are way off, but they generally align with NOAA.

I refuse to travel above 12k without a full Open Summit forecast.
I want to know how many hikers and mountaineers are going to be up there.
I suggest you do the same.
