Attempting a Fox Transfer rebuild?

I am pretty handy. I have built several bikes. I can do lower leg and damper service on a fork, etc. Taking apart a dropper seems very daunting though. I used to have a reverb and it always had problems. Did the easy bleeds, but when I looked into a rebuild it looked pretty tedious. This transfer has had no issues for like 2 seasons and is starting to get "sticky". Rebuild looks as tough as a reverv. I don't want it to fail on me on the trail though. I feel like it's getting close to being "stuck" in the up position on my next few rides. Pony up and have a shop do it?

Transfer rebuild can be done in the home shop, but it does help to have some of the specialized tools from Fox. At least a set of shaft clamps

with the correct diameters. Fox specs a nitrogen fill for pretty much all of their dampers, etc., but its okay to use a regular shock pump if necessary. Their step-wise procedures are mostly spot-on.

Send it to Fox for service. Done right with the right tools and right parts. For $90 you'll get a complete overhaul of Seat Post internals, All seals replaced, Damper re-bled with new Damper oil, Will look and perform as new.
For additional $50 you can jump to the front off the line in the service center, or for additional $75 you can get a guaranteed 1 day in house turnaround based on a scheduled appointment.

Yeah, that was the biggest hurdle. I don't want to wait days/weeks to get it back.

I assume it's just like nitrogen in car tires. Much less affected by temperature changes than regular air.

He is correct, however, in that African swallows are non-migratory.

Ive been putting a touch of shock oil on the stanchion/seal with a Q-tip before every ride and it seems fine.....for now. Do local shops perform this rebuild or is this a have to send it to Fox thing?

We had some guys go solo that would do all sorts of stuff like this, I'd imagine a shop would, but I'm always what's in/out at different shops as far as the types of services they provide. You may have to do 20-30 minutes of phone 'leg' work to find a place up there.

You can do what a lot here do, order another "cheap" dropper and resell it once you get the serviced one back. I know how hard it can be this time of year to get a good turnaround, especially in your case (training and racing)... etc.
