Sailed Stamford CT to Ossining NY
Not a bad way to start out the Memorial Day Weekend. Met up with friends that just purchased an X-Yacht X-332.
http://sailingmagazine.net/article-401-x-332.html They used to race one years ago. He's always regretted selling it. Fastforward, he bought another one.
The wind was ripping pretty good on Friday, 25-30 mph gusts. We sailed from Stamford to City Island in fairly short order. Got her way over a few times.
Dinner view from CIYC...

Nightcap
Woke up to a beautiful morning, next to a friend that also has an X Yacht
Passing Fort Totten (Construction began 1862, named in 1898)
Fort Schuyler (Begun 1833, garrisoned 1861)
Continued under power past the Throggs Neck to the Whitestone
Industry on the water
Massive floating prison

Coastguard was not thrilled with our young man out on the pulpit. Glad they were friendly That gun on the front means business.

Happy Owner
NYC skyline is changing so fast. Westside has spawned it's own city.
Beginning to leave the city behind as we head north on the Muhhekunnetuk, the river that flows both ways. (get bent Henry ) Sliding by Grants Tomb. Final resting place of Ulysses S Grant (1822-1885). Tomb was completed in 1897.
Riverside Church (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his "Beyond Vietnam" speech).
Winds working in our favor
Heading for the George Washington Bridge (Built 1927-1931) One of the worlds busiest at over 100 million vehicles per year.
A lot of people don't realize that there is a lighthouse at the foot of the bridge. Officially known as Jeffery's Hook Light (1921)
Through the Palisades

Heading for the mighty new Tappan Zee Bridge (FU Cuomo)
The "Left Coast Lifter" (nicknamed "I Lift NY") is one of the largest floating cranes in the world. This thing is a beast! If you saw just that red crane un to it's self, you would think that it was big. Put along side the big lifter it looks like a toothpick.
All in all it was a great 2 days. Aprox 65nm. Winds and tides were almost always in our favor. Got dropped off and they continued on their way to Ossining.
Almost home...

Thanks Wy and 406. Of course pics (at least the ones I take ) never do it justice. When the Palisades, and points north, are ablaze with color come fall, it's like sailing through a kaleidoscope. Good times.

What a great sail!!! Love the scenery. My buddy had a 32 ft. Express in the Bay Area that held the record for SF to Maui for it's class. We ran that thing around the Bay during Fleet Week, out the Golden Gate, up the Delta. Always love going under the big bridges.
