    Snowshoes with pin binders

Do these exist? If not, why? Who makes a snowshoe you can use your AT boot with?

I'm pretty sure you can simply strap your AT boots into most-if-not-all snowshoe bindings. And with snowshoes, I don't think you need the fall release function central to all ski bindings.

I don't really understand snowshoes. I own some, they're Crescent Moons made in Boulder. I just don't know when to use them other than for a jaunt

They were like Verts, but with a tec toe (or crampon bail?) and made of a flat sheet of aluminium.
Same purpose as the Verts though: steep ups.

There was a vert-like product that could attach to crampons. Don't recall any with a tech toe.

    Edit for link:

Didn't get to test the ghetto milk crate based ascension plates in enough of a variety of conditions to figure out if they're good enough yet...but...they worked pretty good in the limited scope of test runs. Pretty simple/quick/bomber attachment using wide Voile ski straps. Super light. Cheap. Durability unknown.

Wide leading edge or narrow depending on quality of snow surface. Found the narrow leading edge worked good for hard but grippy and/or penetrable crust.

One major difference I can see is the pivot point of a snow shoe and the tech toe. Even if you had a tech toe attached to a plate pivoting under foot the mechanics would be constantly digging into the snow/ice. The crampon style mount would make the most sense to me with the pivot point set back. To me snowshoes are good for walking your trap line, or working in your sugarbush. I can see the use of the ones boarders use for booting up a steep soft couloir. Am the tourons using them on a hard packed trail are the real nut jobs

Combine the two below (without the metal split board plate) and I believe that you'd have what most people are looking for, for around $120 or less if you find them used or stick with just the stock vert bindings, which work surprisingly well. Tech toes are unnecessary and too expensive to waste on slowshoes.

    Snowshoes with pin binders

With a tech toe you’d then want a fixed platform on which to mount it thus negating the necessarily flexible platform that is the crampon.

During the years I went full blown ghey (snowboarder) me and the couple of guys I rode most with all rode hardshell boots. I guess about 25 years ago I made something similar to the above out of a burton plate binding for use with snowshoes since really, a hardshell in those straps sucked. The boot moved too much and often ended up coming out too often. Mind you, snowshoe bindings are now much improved. Anyway:

These will mount to any snow shoe but one needs to drill out the rivets and then mount with screws

It’s a project. And weighs a ton. But it worked amazing and was so simple in and out.
