On Memorial Day, special protocol is observed. The flag should fly at the half-staff position until noon only, and then be raised to the top of the staff for the remainder of the day. This custom, unique to Memorial Day, honors the war dead in the morning of Memorial Day, but then the flag is raised to full-staff at noon by the living, "who resolve not to let their sacrifice be in vain, but to rise up in their stead and continue the fight for liberty and justice for all."

Scientists now have decisive molecular evidence that humans and chimpanzees once had a common momma and that this lineage had previously split from monkeys.

Shout outs to
my uncle, Herb Knowles, who served with Patton in N Africa and Italy,
And Dan Somers who served in Iraq. His wife was my daughters best friend
Both men died because they couldn’t live with what they had seen and done. One of 20 veterans a day...
Here’s the letter Dan left for his wife

Thanks TBS, that was incredibly powerful to read.
To add another person to the list I find myself thinking of my uncle and namesake who died in Vietnam. RIP Uncle John. I would have loved the chance to meet you.Last edited by John_B; 05-30-2022 at 08:37 AM.

The reason I do this is to remind myself that Memorial Day in the US is the day for honoring the members of military who gave the ultimate. To remind us that war is all about death. War is death.
To be clear, my dad was not KIA. I still can't believe that at 145 lbs he could hump 60 lbs 12 miles in under 3 hours. Probably why I never saw him run a step in my life.A few people feel the rain. Most people just get wet.
