RC cars
Anybody else play with RC cars when they aren't wrenching on old ones or jerkin off int eh car porn thread?
My son and I have a few. We like the bigger 1/8 scale stuff.
We also have a track in the backyard if any mags in SLC want to hit it up.
Here is a crappy vid and a few pics.

we have a completely disassembled 4x4 sc10 on a basement project table
we were getting too much resistance somewhere in the drivetrain (killing otherwise good batteries) & we pulled it all apart, but it's now been sitting there for 8mos
maybe a summer project to get it running again...
only pic i found was when it was pristine

Guy that used to work for me was into it. Came to work one day heartbroken- the controls failed and his car made a beeline into a busy street two blocks away, where it was crushed by a passing box truck.
A better man than me wouldn’t have busted out laughing

Use to be big into rc as a kid. Like, way too into it, BUT it fostered an enjoyment of turning wrenches and mechanics that are halfway similar to full scale cars.
People use to pay me to airbrush their lexan bodies, even. Peeps all over the US.
Don't worry, I've saved some pussy for the rest of ya'll I swear.

Had an Associated RC10 ; a "LunchBox" van and a few others back in the day.......good stuff.

The lunch box was badass. The proportions on the thing made it look so cool. Also had an RC10 and a grasshopper. They were always fun to mess around with. My buddy had a gas truck that went like 70mph. That was awesome too.
I bought two Traxxas ( I think ) 1/10 scale trucks a few years ago, but my kids didn’t seem to get into it as much as I remember I did when I was their age.
I might dig them out and charge em up today because of this thread. Thanks for the reminder!

I raced for several years as a kid, indoor and outdoor. We had a couple modified RC10s one that we built from spare parts, a Bigfoot that my old man heavily modified to the point that it would wheelie off the line, an RC12 for indoor, and a YZ10. I still have the RC10 that I raced.
They were fun, but I've driven some of the gas stuff more recently, and those things are crazy fast.Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

I had a Clod Buster I kept running for about 20 years. Sometimes I wish I still had it, but not enough to build/buy another one.

I had an Team Associated RC-10 (dune buggy) as a kid and later an RC-10L (on road). I gave up RC for a long time but recently got back into with my younger boy. He loves it. We have a pair of Traxxas 1/16 brushless E-Revos. I had a 1/10 brushless E-Revo, as well. I just sold that to upgrade to the 1/10 E-Revo 2.0. Those cars are wicked compared to old RC-10.
My boy also just bought (with his own money he saved) a TRX-4 Defender rock crawler. That thing is pretty fun. Just like the real thing only smaller. It's also very capable. Crawls over any type of terrain. Even has locking diffs and a two speed transfer case. Very cool.
I never got into nitro power. With modern brushless motors and Li-po batteries, I have all the power and runtime I need without the hassle of mixing fuel, adjusting flow rates, etc.Last edited by Tamburello Rouge; 05-22-2019 at 12:48 PM.

That's sort of how I feel. Never got into gas, but when I got back into it a few years back, I was thinking about it, then drive a nice 1/8 brushless lipo setup, and that was it. So good.

Also current status...
Funny, since reading this thread, I busted out all my RC stuff, spent about $100 on parts and upgrades, and I’ve been playing around with the trucks, setting up jumps and having fun with them. ( it probably helps that my leg is in a brace and I can’t drive right now...) it’s good fun and keeps me busy for a small part of the day.

I used to have a Traxxas Rustler back in the day... A few of my friends still are into them, so they bring them camping and what not. I thought about getting a new Traxxas Slash to mess around with... I like the stadium trucks.

^ my money's on an old duratrax evader st. Mowed many a lawn to buy one from the tower hobbies catalogue back in the day

Yup, Kyle called it. Old school duratrax evader st. Got fresh battery packs for one and converted one to the cheapest brushless setup I could find. Holy crap the new brushless motors are insanely powerful.
I wish I had $5-600 to spend on one of those E Revo 2’s at the top of this thread, that thing looks super fun. But I’ll stick with my old school trucks for now.
I actually looked at the tower hobbies website the other day, apparently they don’t have a catalog anymore. ( and probably haven’t had one for 15-20 years ) but I used to love getting that thing in the mail.

These are so cool. That Defender upthread is awesome. I like the modeling aspect almost as much as the performance, cool. I went to the website and they have a Blazer and a Bronco built on that same Chassis. As a kid I had a few Radio Shack buggies adn that yellow 4x4 radio Shak truck. Always wanted some of the cooler stuff but never did get any.
I also saw that un-licensed pickup TRX-4 Sport built on the same crawler chassis as the Defender/Bronco but with always-locked diffs (not really diffs, then) and I think a one-speed transmission. That thing looked like some good crawling fun for less $$ than the Defender/Blazer/Bronco. Kinda sorta almost bought one from the website. I guess that's the kind of thing for tooling around without a track, maybe along river banks and stuff.
The slash/slash 4x4 looks awesome, but one would think you'd need a track to get the full fun factor out of it. Maybe not. AWD car would be fun in a parking lot.
man. I got way to many priorities for any of these but the are totally rad. Jealous.
Here's the vid for the blazer. I mean, I ain't got $500 bucks for this, but, really I was kinda surprised it wasn't more spendy .
If we're gonna wear uniforms, we should all wear somethin' different!
