    True -- but I can see ice axes being sort of an edge case in that they aren't really pro or softgoods. I've returned unused crampons before which seems similar.

    Agree that it's not like a 'biner, but then again, it's a single point of failure and can be expected to serve belay anchor duty, so maybe it's worse.

    Looking at this from the retailer's perspective ('coz we all like to sue), are ya gonna x-ray for micro fractures?

    I have these shorties and they are great for fast approaches and a nice “strap on” in case you decide something is sketchy and need to pull out an ice axe.
